Having just picked up my new to me V12V, I'd forgotten how much technology has moved forward in the last 10 years. With Apple airplay and Bluetooth
I haven't given a thought to connectivity of my mobile device. With the old tech in the V12V I'm wondering what's the best way to link my phone. No problem with connecting to make phone calls but I'd like to be able to use Spotify and internet radio. The V12V has an iPod connector, USB and I think an aux in jack point. It would be good if I could charge at the same time so that I could also use Waze for nav. Anyone have any pearls of wisdom as to best connectivity options? Cheers.

haha, think you will be very lucky for any of that on the standard V12V, but what you can do is google aston installations and for an amount of money they will upgrade the system

I’d like to do the same.

Aston installations is perhaps your only route

Talk to them after you’ve saved up or remortgaged the house

You could use a bovee connected to the ipod connection, then bt to your phone. Thats what I currently do. If you set waze to ‘play sound via - Play as Bluetooth phone call’, then it will give you voice prompts through the car speakers, and I use deezer streamed through the car as well. Ok you have to actually use the phone and not the built in pop up screen, but personally I usually have the screen down anyway.

Aston installations do a really good job, although the old screen is a somewhat limiting factor. They are not ridiculously expensive either. In fact rather reasonable when you realise what is involved.

Thanks for the advice. Shame Aston Installations are back all the way down the road towards Bristol having just picked car up from there yesterday. Unlikely I’ll be making that journey again in the near future. Maybe just have to try the bovee option for now unless I can find something closer to home.

I have the same issue. I think they need the car for a few days, which isn’t a straight forward option for me either (York). Perhaps one day we can share a transporter lol.

I had carplay installed by Aston Installations. They have now developed a custom wiring loom that makes fitting a lot quicker. They did mine in a morning. Great setup.

My 10 plate had the iPod adapter in the armrest and I just added the latest lightning adapter and connected Spotify and charged that way

If its audio your are after then Apple Carplay is a very expensive way to get it. I have a 2006 vantage with the original comedy sat nav.

Carplay lets you mirror a range of apps including Waze. I decide that it was worth the spend as it kind of future proofs things. The controller is very easy to use and means I don't get distracted if I'm switching apps or dictating a reply to a WhatsApp message.

Horses for courses if you are just after audio and happy to set something playing & leave it you don't need Carplay.

I second this for the Bovee 1000. It turns the old school 30-pin ipod connector into a bluetooth module. Paid ~£95 for mine from memory. Works with my iPhone X very well and supports spotify.

I have the phone mounted in a RAM mount on the windscreen for waze etc. To charge I run a cable from the USBs under the central armrest (not perfect i know)

Bovee works really well. I just have the phone mounted and it is the simplest full featured and cost effective solution. Run Waze or Google Maps, music/video/radio etc. I can’t be bothered spending £1300 with Aston Installs and have to organise transport to/from Aston Installations because they do not offer a collection/delivery service. It does not seem good value to me given the Bovee option.

Agree with this. Think I'll look at the Bovee option or trying a lightning connector and see if that provides a workable solution. Not sure I need to spend over £1k for CarPlay for what I'm likely to use it for.

The nice thing with Bovee is that the steering wheel controls still control the music and phone calls as a fully integrated device.

Didn’t know that, even better!
