Can anyone help me out with the dimensions of the secondary de-cat pipes on the DB9 please?

If you've had it done and have an old secondary cat pipe lying around I would be grateful if you could measure it and post up the dimensions such as pipe length, diameter at each end and bolt hole distances of the flange.

I'm going to ask my local exhaust fabricator to make me a pair rather than paying through the nose for them online. I'd prefer to do it from the measurements so I don't need to remove the cats until the time of the swap.

Cheers

👍🏻

You cant really do it that way because the ends are not parallel. One end is swaged and the other end does not have the flange flat across the pipe.

Only way you can easily do it is to leave the cat flange and joint connected and cut out the actual body of the section.

Best way is to have it done on the car at a suitable exhaust specialist. Mine was about £100.00 if I remember.

Ah ok, good to know.

I guess I could take the cat pipes out and take them to the exhaust fabricator and ask them to make me a pair that way?

Cut the cats out and weld flanges onto them.
Weld flanges onto the cut pipe ends under your car.
Buy pipes of the correct dimensions to fit in the gaps where the cars were, and weld flanges to the end of them.

Now, for the price of new gaskets, you can swap between catted and decatted as necessary.
O2 sensor spacers are a quick and easy means of switching off the related warning light (assuming you have such a thing)

Give the guys at Fast Road / Powerspeed exhausts a ring, they do a pair for about £300

Yes you can.
This says nothing of your ability to pass an MOT afterward, however, which is why I suggested flanged test pipes and flanged cats.

i might be wrong but i think youd be ok , there are no less than 4 catalytic converters in the exhaust manifolds ,

Simplest thing to do is just get a local exhaust place to make some straight pipes up for you
Keep the old cats and should you ever sell your car you can put the cats back on, sell your decat pipes to the next guy and recoup your costs.

Sorted! Went down to my local fabricator and they made them from scratch and installed for about £300inc VAT. Slightly more than I was expecting to pay but I'm satisfied. 👍🏻

are you honestly so lazy that you'd give someone 300 quid instead of measuring, cutting and welding? Some of us have to 7 or 8 hours to make 300 quid!

Yeah very happy thanks. Before the mod the exhaust wasn't overly audible in the cabin when cruising and only partially so when at WOT.

Now with the valves closed it is still barely audible in the cabin when cruising/idling, but at WOT it sounds much more like it should. With the valves open/fuse removed at idle and pottering about you get a bit more of a burble than before.

Regarding making my own pipes, you guys clearly haven't seen my welding! Plus, as others have pointed out earlier, when I sell the car I will remove the pipes and sell them to recoup the cost. Over the long term I imagine this is pretty much cost neutral.

I used Exhaust-a-Fix in Darlington.

Recommended for everything from simple things like this to bespoke systems of any complexity.

Thats not lazy, whilst it may only take an exhaust fabrication specialist a few hours, he has all the right equipment to hand. Its damn more than a days work to cut those flanges, swage the ends, buy the materials, cut to size and weld whilst hanging under the car on axle stands with no room to work and a hacksaw, drill and file.

£300.00 is a VERY reasonable cost considering the materials and tooling required to make that with the owner not even getting his hands dirty.
