Hi all, I’m in the process of removing and stripping down the wing worries on my Vantage to get the corrosion on the arms sores once and for all.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to separate the cast aluminium part that acts as the pivot point from the body of the mirror?
This part is also corrodes so needs taking off, see images below.
Looks like there’s a key way on the motor spline so some special tool might fit this and allow you to rotate the aluminium part?

When I did my mirror arms last year I couldn’t see how to separate that piece either, in the end I gave up and did the arms with that picot still attached.

Ok thanks Steve, I might take it to a dealer to see if they have any ideas. This side has corroded pretty badly so it needs painting and that will be really tricky with it still in situ.

Hi J - just checking out the pics again. That aluminium bit in the centre appears to be made to a very specific design. It looks as if the keyways cut into it match up with the nodules on the cast part.

In addition, the 3 indents in the shiny bit could be used to turn the shiny bit and unlock the whole mechanism?

Im with you on the solution

Can anyone point me at (idiot proof) instructions on removing door mirror arms, or at least disassembly to a point where they can be treated on the car? Google hasn’t worked for me.

Thanks,

Malcolm

Hi Malcolm

Here's the full on strip down procedure that I've just followed
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/aston-martin/4...

For painting in situ try this thread:

Cheers

I'm on this conundrum at the moment - I've decided to prime and paint the locking hub in situ after removing the coloured cap.

a few tips -

When removing the awkward tor-X bolt in the window guide, attach a strong magnet to the bit - it's stop it from going anywhere.

When removing connector pins, use a safety pin - you will be able to feel out the small plastic clip holding the pin in.

Does the silver coloured bit in BigMig's pricy not simply rotate ? Circlip pliers in a couple of the holes should give you something to turn it with.

Might need a push down in case there's a spring underneath.

Let us know how you get on.

Mines a little different. Looks alike a specific tool to
Remove it

It’s some sort of push and twist locking collar. Doesn’t loook like it’s designed to be taken apart once assembled

Stripped and sprayed with VHT black wrinkle paint. I could have made it a little smoother, but there is always next time. Door strip down is straightforward. Make sure u use a magnet to avoid errant bolts and screws.
