They have 1 AML and AML 1 as well as V12 AML and others.

They regularly switch the plates around to be on the latest cars.

Heard a great anecdote about a car having AML 1 on the front and 1 AML on the back because they moved the plates around in haste some years ago.

UK number plates with low numbers and/or letters are very expensive these days.
They've been a good investment as they weren't worth a lot 30 years or so ago.

I was fortunate 30 years ago to buy (XX nnn) two letters and three numbers, for £10.
It was first issued in 1926. Won't sell, so value now is academic.

I do have a few other old reg. marks, but had no idea all those years ago, that opportunity was staring me in the face. banghead

There is a story about Joseph Cyril Bamford, founder of JCB, who in 1958 bought ten mopeds with the number plates JCB1 to JCB10, for the registration marks to be transferred to his firm's vehicles.
At that time you were not allowed to retain a mark, unless it was allocated to a vehicle, hence the use of mopeds.

Edit - I notice that the run of JCB marks now goes above 10. JCB 10 to JCB 14 are each allocated to white Vauxhalls.
Wonder if the drivers might all be salesmen of the year? _ smile

White Vauxhalls? More likely to be cars allocated to the bottom four performers in the business to incentivise them to do better next year. biglaugh

hehe

Yes, I see your point.
The pride in the number plate, being offset somewhat.

You can guess the type of cars bearing the lower JCB numerals. No AMs though.

Speaking of plates, is this legit or just photoshopped? And if not, is it someone here?

2 BE is on a Vanquish. NOT 2B is currently on a Range Rover.

I think it was a genuine photo of real plates.

Brilliant, and said as someone who usually dislikes dated plates.

Have to remember, always to park them in the correct order. smile

I know these plates and the London house parked at, they belong to Ben Elton (he of 90's non PC comedy and latterly more Theatre work). On a main road I used to drive past a lot

Custard. Unless it was from a family member. Even cheap 3 letters 3 numbers plates were £150 plus in 1990

Sorry - how time flies.
It was 1975.

The 3 letters 3 numbers (mostly issued in the 1950s) are good ones to buy these days. Obviously higher prices, but still reasonable compared to many. Expect you have noticed how they are popular with car manufacturers. When used in an advert, the film can be used for some time, because the car still looks new. With 6 month registration changes, the car maker would probably have to keep repeating the filming.

Slightly funny that, because car makers just love the 6 month changes. It makes some drivers feel their car is out of date and want to replace. Perhaps spending on a number plate might be cheaper than replacing a car so often.

Not sure how old the original photo is and I haven't driven past for some time. Without giving any location away I just had a look on Google Earth Street View and as of the June 2019 image showing there is a Range Rover Vogue in the parking spot (and of course number plate blurred) and no Aston so maybe he isn't in the same house anymore. A quick Google search says he has houses in Oz and Sussex so guessing the cars now down there. Well known as a petrol head from a long time back

Ah could be still there then as there is a Black Rangie on Google Earth Streetview as of the June 2019 current pic showing albeit with plate blurred out. Worrying I'm sounding like a BE stalker now rather than just someone who used to see the Aston a lot, likes cars, and knows someone who knew they were his! smile
