Something on Topgear.com this morning about these limited run new-old cars:

https://www.topgear.com/car-news/retro/good-news-y...

I didn't realise (a) they would be glued together in the UK, or that (b) they are based on donor Vantages, presumably V12S models.

However, the result is possibly the perfect V12 Vantage Zagato being based, hopefully, on the last-gen V12S model with the last model centre console and have the option of SportShift III transmission.

Best of off, the wing - the only detraction from the perfect shape - is now retractable.

I prefer the original Zagato V12V alloys, but I'm sure that can be accommodated.

Pity you have to buy them as a pair. But in these times, I wouldn't be surprised that stipulation slips when demands may be dampened.

Whoever gets these are lucky, lucky people!

PS - they all look like computer renderings at present. I presume this will actually happen?

Lovely looking cars but where do they get their pricing from ?

A V12 Vantage £50-100 k depending on year etc base car , a Bamford Rose exhaust and engine upgrade to 600 bhp , say £8k , so the other £800-£900 k is body work ?

And you still only have a "replica "

Wow

Agreed - pricing is a tad "ambitious" for us mere mortals. Of which there are many more at these times.

If lockdown goes on much longer I may create my own . Got the donor car and a hacksaw , what could go wrong?

I’ll admit that’s not what sprung to my mind. Don’t understand why someone wanting to spend £2.1M wouldn’t be seeking proper AM released Zagatos...If I were in the market for a restomod, which is what these look to be (?), I think my money might head in a different direction.

Maybe someone wiser and more researched than me can throw some info in here, but it`s fair to say I`m struggling with these things a bit. AML specials are often cranked out with a degree of vanity and the Zagato variants seem to be reasonably popular, but the price increase for what seems as essentially a rebodied car touting the wonders of coachwork is somewhat hard to justify and often not an improvement to my eyes. These new Vantages are licensed yes, but by Zagato, AML, or both? I don`t see AML trumpeting these so assume it is not part of their business... and if that`s the case where are the chassis, engines etc coming from? Are you actually buying a new Aston Martin, a restomod, or a kit car?

They are certainly not ugly, these Zagato Vantages are good looking things, much more so than the recent DBS offering, but to buy two cars for £1.7m is a hefty increase compared to the original vehicle which is already attractive and desirable. It would be possible to buy a low mileage GT8 and V12S and still walk away with more than £1million still intact in your portfolio. They seem to fall into the car collector bracket, rather than any real world usage, and as such it`s hard to get excited about them.
At least the Vanquish Zagato shooting brake is a unique, one-off design that is unavailable in normal guise, it`s not just a styling tweak of the existing coupe.

I don't get these at all. Who in their right mind would spend 2 million quid on "second hand" replica's of a Zagato Vantages where the originals are probably available for the same money or less. Not Zagato's finest hour when it comes to aesthetics either, to my eyes really ugly cars.

originals seem to be around £600k.

And I prefer the original wheels!

So £1.2m for the real deal or £2.1m for a couple of replicas . Mmmm , glad I'm not troubled by that sort of purchase lol

Nick Mee has an original for sale at the moment if anyone has lock down fever and a penchant for yellow. Apparently 2000 man hours went into the hand rolled aluminium and carbon body work of originals. Somehow I doubt these reps take the same time to create.

well, I guess the 38 total suggests they did 62 coupes originally?

Guess is depends how much of a premium you put on the super rare speedster.

I neither have the means or desire to put that much of a premium on!!
