apart from the one chap who kept repeating that the car would be in serious trouble if they got out of order.

I enjoyed it too, but not as much as the old Aston history documentaries which are still around on YouTube, showing craftsmen rolling the metal and hand-forming wings etc.

These are good ,interesting programmes for anyone with petrol in their veins.

It was Bentley last week and it's all generally the same procedure throughout.

It's Morgan next week which may be a little different ,and Maserati to come ,same again but with an accent.

Maybe they will do one for Peugeot where there’s no automation at all and it’s all just french men smoking while beating panels

I watched inside the factory where they where making le cruisette dishes, the amount of stuff still done by hand that didn’t need to be was crazy.

Haha, I picked this up too.

Was a great show - I was quite surprised that they took the doors and bonnet off after painting to fit the gubbins though (rather than doing it in situ).

Placing the entire dashboard inside the car, might not be possible with the doors on.

Had a couple of factory visits quite a few years ago. Noticed on the programme, quite a bit more automation now.
There was just a single robot when I was there.

Have another visit booked later this year, but of course everything is off for now.
Not sure how everyone in a car factory, can continually remain 2 metres apart from each other.

Thank you for posting the reminder for this. I watched it on "catch up". Fascinating and very enjoyable.

Didn’t see the program but removing doors after painting is the norm on a Ford production line. Stops any damaged panels whilst installing cables and components as well as get the dash and seats in rather easy 🙂.

Yes, Ford put such a line into Jaguar in about 1990, replacing the old floor mounted chain conveyor. XJ40 I think. It surprised me at the time. First op removed the doors, but the right colour doors always arrived at the last station.

Next week the programme will be very different from Aston Martin.
I don't mean the aspect of Morgan regularly making a profit, but the lack of, well almost everything.
No moving production line, robots, computer screens, etc.
Look out for the famous ancient wooden clamp. It holds three strips of glued ash timber in place, to make curved wood. Priceless.

Hope the TV presenter does not make that old joke, "Does it still have a wooden chassis?"
They are very proud of their new alloy bonded chassis, but they don't make it themselves. Tubular chassis and leaf springs were ended fairly recently, and last seen on a special edition model to mark the occasion.

Investindustrial have I think now purchased 51% of Morgan. Do you think there might be a campaign about Morgan's luxury goods brands, and how they are not a motor manufacturer, followed by a stock market flotation? - wink

Go rinse your mouth out - just because they played the luxury goods/fashion goods game with Karrimor and AML - you don't think the nasty venture capitalists/Private equity men would do that again do you ......

Yep that’s the way. Doors always arrived perfectly on time to the correct body shell. smile
