The glass has fallen out of my nearside wing mirror. It looks like Aston want £90 for a replacement....really? Just for a bit of mirror? I did source one off e-bay for £5.99 which, surprise surprise, didn't fit. Aren't these Volvo parts anyway? Can anyone advise?

Many thanks for that. I saw it before and am a bit stuck as all I need is the glass - the backing is still in the housing - i assume the heating element is in there too still. So I'm a bit unclear what exactly this part is and how to fit it. maybe I need to pop into my local Volvo garage!

If its similar to the vantage you can carefully pop the plastic that the glass bonds to. A couple of wires to disconnect which powers the heated element.

If you move the plastic that holds the glass to its maximum you will see that its held in place by a clip on the end. You can pop it out with a screwdriver.

To get it to the right position imagine you are adjusting the mirror inwards so you can see the side of the car in your mirror.

It’s a bit weird as it looks like the glass should be stuck to a slightly mirrored softish backing as you can see in this pic

Just a guess but the glass will be bonded to the plastic back. Could be some of the residual mirroring?

I had similar on my DB9. That looks like the heater element bonded to the plastic plate. Pop it out of the housing and you’ll find the Volvo part number on the reverse. I was fortunate that I grabbed the glass as it peeled off, but if I hadn’t then a quick trip to Volvo spares would have solved it. I glued the mirror back on with mirror adhesive and it’s been fine ever since.

Definitely sounds like a trip to my local Volvo garage - which luckily is a mile down the road. Now...wonder if it's open!

Is it easy to "pop" it out of the housing...I'm kind of hoping someone on here may know what the part number might be as Volvo have said they are happy to order and fit it - in fact they said if I could just let them know what Volvo it is off, that should be enough

Yes it's very straightforward. I had to replace the motor that moves the mirror. Ended up being a ford part. Almost certainly part number will be on the back of the mirror backplate.
