Advice Needed - Which AM to buy?
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm looking buying one of a variety of AM's so thought I'd pick the collective brains of you existing AM owners. I'm trying to factor in a few things such as drive-ability, speed, sound, looks, rarity, future value etc. The models I'm considering are:
- Vantage N430 V8 Manual
- Vantage AMR V8 Manual
- Vantage V12 Manual
- Vantage V12 S Auto (can't quite stretch to the manual here as they are still £100k minimum)
- Vanquish (2013 onwards)
- DBS Manual
All are around a similar price bracket (£60k - £80k).
Which would you think is likely to hold its value most in the future (apart from the DBS obviously)?
I really like the Vantage V12 S, but it's an Auto so don't think it'll hold value as well and I hear the auto box in these are not the greatest.
Thanks all.

If you dont think the Vantage V12 S will hold its value because its an auto and that the auto box is not the greatest, why is it even in your list?I'm looking buying one of a variety of AM's so thought I'd pick the collective brains of you existing AM owners. Because it's the fastest AM on the list and also love the looks of the one I've found. It's a mini battle between head and heart.Welcome!
This post could go on well into 2021 😊
Quick comments:
Get a V12 (if you get a V8, believe me you’ll wish you got a V12 at some stage).
I don’t think you’ll get a manual DBS for 80k.
Best residual value - probably early V12 Vantage.
Best car - V12 Vantage S SS III with lightweight seats. (Take cover). 😊
Ok I’m biased in that I’ve had a V12VS for five years, but I wouldn’t swap it for any of the others.
They’re all fantastic. It’s just personal taste.

Totally agree with what you say that this thread will run and run, everyone is biased towards what they have because they dont want to say that they dont like what they have bought. So i will jump on board and say that i also agree with the V12 Vantage S, lightweight seats are a must, so is lightweight wheels, plus a Q colour. Dont worry about the auto/manualised gearbox, it really is good, once those who know how to use it properly. You will probably find that the majority of nay sayers are people who have either; heard it from a friend, read it on the internet, been out for a test drive and not used the paddles or have used the paddles but have no clue how to use them correctly. Used correctly its a great gearbox. This post could go on well into 2021 ??

Ahh that's interesting then. Whenever I'm in an auto with paddles I'm always 100% paddle shifting anyway, so maybe it's less of an issue for me then. The V12 Vantage S is seriously rapid, which is why it stayed on my list.Buster73 said:
I’d ask a question on an internet message board regarding half a dozen different cars , get responses from folk who may or may not have experience of the cars , then make my mind up then.
Can’t see anything going wrong at all.
Hilarious, Buster! Can’t see anything going wrong at all.

Oh, if anybody asked me I´d say V8 Vantage S (surprise, surprise) - not even on the list
, but will depreciate just as badly as all the others

OP, perhaps you can take a look at the countless threads of the past (V8 vs. V12, "V12 Vantage prices skyrocketing??
etc.) covering these subjects

I felt the two models which I selected, met the majority of the factors listed.
In particular, both have long lost their slugs of early depreciation, which might help future values, and our OP appears to favour an 'old school' gearbox, for an end of era Aston Martin. Perhaps very appropriate.
Interestingly I don't own either model, so genuine impartiality on that point. -

Whilst we’re “talking up our own books” have you considered a manual DB9?! For your budget you’d get a low-mileage beauty and have lots of cash left for upgrades. Just been for a drive in mine and cannot wipe the smile off my face. It’s a lovely gearbox and makes such a difference to the car - purely in my opinion of course...
Ps - not much fun in heavy stop-start traffic though I have to admit.
