2007 Vantage will not start
Discussion
Hi Folks
Was going to pick my Vantage up from storage. But they ran to say that they had noticed that battery voltage had been dropping off in recent weeks and suspected a duff battery even though it had a trickle charger on it. Anyway they tried to start it with a jump set. It fired up then died and has refused to start since. Any ideas please. I am thinking it may have fired up on remaining fuel pressure then it has died as if the fuel pump was not running. Or is it have the immobiliser works?
Desperate to get it back but may have to have it recovered!

A few scenarios for "will not start"!
Does it turn over but not fire,
Does it turn over, spit and pop but still not pick up,
Does it not turn over but ignition lights up ok,
Is the ignition apparently dead?
If it fired and died, then if it only ran for a very short time, the plugs could be fouled, unlikely it would run on residual fuel pressure, that was ok for carb engines but not for injected cars.

Storage man rang this morning to say they had now managed to jumped it off a booster connected direct to the battery after I had told them where the battery lives! Any picked it up tonight and it started off the key so drove it sensibly home some 30 miles. Car seemed ok but was displaying emissions service required. Once home stop and started the car a few times and it started OK but the fault did not clear. Tried my £15 code reader but it was denied a reset! Took the car for spirited drive and tried again - fault cleared.
I'm wondering if the battery was dog flat and as soon as they took the jumpers off it died, I've had that happen with other cars, it can take a few minutes for the alternator to wake up and start pumping out some juice, meantime it's basically running on the jumpers and if you take them off it dies.
