Cheap OBD reader, that does not work

Hi All,

I bought a cheap ebay U480 OBD reader to cancel the emissions service required error on my 2006 Vantage.
Having plugged it into the correct port, there is power to the reader but says there is a connection error.
I have also tried a friends Autel reader, still saying connection error.

Does anyone have any experience of a similar issue and how to fix it?
