These pics are from a 2019 DBS that has had the dealer treatment. Given a quick polish to make the paint look all wavey and full of buffer trails and then for extra protection, they decided not to remove the sealant in some places.

No idea why anyone would choose this option instead of getting someone that knows what they are doing to protect it. Saying that though, the water still ran off very well.

The problem is the average 'joe' walks in with love in their eyes, and fails to look at the details - or maybe even doesnt even know what to look for.

I remember years ago meeting someone who thought orange peel effect in the paint meant the paint was original factory ......must have lived through the BL era !

Because most people will trust that after spending a small fortune on a new/replacement car, the dealer is the most trustworthy source of aftercare. They can also trust that failures in the service will be covered by the dealers warranty. Same applies to both servicing and preparation. I suspect that if the owner of the car you show brought this to the attention of the dealership, it would have been resolved, allbeit with a few tut's behind his back.

The vast majority will not trust their car to an independent valeter due to insurance issues with their work and unavailability if there is a comeback, or reliable feedback from their work.

Most will also not justify the many hundreds, often thousands spent on a specialist valet either when the car is filthy the next time it drives any appreciable mileage.

Always have my car professionally detailed by a trusted guy who I’ve known for many years, usually get the cars straight to him still all wrapped up.

For some Reason, maybe a weak moment I agreed for the dealer to prep and ceramic coat on the recent vantage purchase. What a mistake, they did refund the cost as it was shockingly poor. Ended up having to polish it all off prior to PPF.... which I must say I have been very impressed with, not cheap but on a black car it is very good.

I would never get ceramic coat on a high end car, especially from the dealer. Unless paint is prepared perfect you are screwed. Wouldn't allow something on my car that has to be compounded or even worse sanded off.

A coating only has to be sanded off if it’s not removed and in most cases, it can be polished off. As for being compounded off, it’s no Different than polishing the car to remove swirl marks. Think of it as a very long lasting wax with some protection against wash marring.

I know. My car is always garaged and covered. I only wash with de ionized water and use blow drier and Korean micro fiber towels. In CA weather is always dry and I don't drive in the rain.

Hi AstonV. Are Korean micro fibre towels especially good? This is a genuine question, I'm asking as I want to buy some micro fibre towels. Thanks!

I do hope this is a piss take, otherwise you really need to have a word with yourself.

That’s what I’ve been told. The cheaper ones made in China are throw away towels and good for cleaning undercarriage and cleaning up wheels and tires. The best quality are made in South Korea. I buy them from the Rag Company. I like the orange edge less ones and their platinum pluffle best.

Here’s one of their videos. It’s kind of long but explains a lot.

The serious question is what happened to Paddy's detailed videos about detailing?

There was considerable publicity about a forthcoming series of helpful films, and even some talk that the cast of actors and production team had begun work. Excitable anticipation reached a high level, but we have all been most disappointed since then, because the film publicity has been even quieter than the TVR* marketing department.

I don't think they use that term in the USA.
