2013 DB9 and service history
Discussion
Hi all
I am considering a DB9 and have seen one at a main dealer. It is a 2013 car, done 19k miles and is an approved car.
But, the service history is incomplete, it missed an annual service in 2019, all of the other stamps are main dealer and it does have one for 2020.
As might be expected the dealer is telling me that this isn’t an issue, but won’t give me a clear answer about how they would view it if I were trying to trade the car to them in terms of value etc.
Any thoughts, am I being worried over nothing?
Thanks

As per the famous case: "Well, he would say that, wouldn't he"
Personally, it wouldn't worry me purely from the maintenance point of view but your point about potential future px might provide them with ammunition to offer a lower offer should you look to px it at an Aston franchised dealer. Unfortunately, there's no way of really knowing until the time.
It's an interesting point though; I can't recall the Timeless requirements but I thought that at one time they had to have a full main dealer history to be 'approved'. Has that changed? Not directly related but I know of one MB dealer who offered a lower px because the car 'didn't have a full MB history so we can't retail it'.
For me the issue would be the actual car and how long I intended to keep it.

There comes a point in the value curve that full dealer history doesn't have a huge impact. My 2009 DB9 has been serviced every year by AM Main Dealer, but sometimes with just 250 miles done in a year.
This year, I have decided that I will get it serviced every two years. I spoke to the main dealer and they said a lot of their customers are choosing to do this - (I will probably give it an oil change anyway myself). On your possible purchase - if the miles were really low between the years maybe someone chose the same route as I did.
I asked myself what's a 2009 DB9 worth in reality anyway.... and does lack of Main Dealer Service History affect the value of DB6's - I would argue not?
If you are planning on selling it in the next couple of years, then yes the main dealer network may well hit you for the lack of servicing. If it's a keeper - then does it really matter?

I would not let it worry me too much as long as no service 'stretched' beyond two years. I would look at the overall care of the car and that nothing was otherwise skimped on. For example when it was serviced did it also get air and pollen filters and brake fluid at the designated recommended intervals?
The whole subject gets tricky with low mileage examples which is why I look to a 2 year limit with items done on time vs miles.
We are currently selling a 2005, 14K mile DB9 main dealer serviced as follows. carried out in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2018 and 2020 at 1218, 3379, 7360, 12453, 12639, 12657, 12746, 12762, 12799, 14045 and 14400 miles respectively. So it has seen an inspection bay every 1K miles on average. I will take that as OK.
