"Tires having a maximum speed capability above 186 mph must have "Z" in the size designation and the service description must include Y in parenthesis e.g 275/40ZR17 (93Y)."

I'm not finding these specs when looking online, eg: https://www.blackcircles.com/catalogue/michelin/pi...

Anyone have any ideas? I intend to do the 2xx number once, if I have the cojones, before I pop my clogs rather than the tyres!

Looks like ZR is an older method of rating. (y) in brackets is 186+ according to here..

https://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/tyre-advice/tyre-in...

And here..

One would have thought pilot sport 4s would be the highest rating out there and good for the double ton!

Let us know how you get on!

Be careful Dewi with that idea.

Someone has tried to do that before, using a Rapide.

Thanks for posting, I didn’t know about this. Not great is it. Why didn’t a qualified, experienced racer do the record? High risk a CEO crashing. Sorry for the hijack.

Honestly, tyre speed ratings are a mess. Apparently it all kind of more or less dates back to when 4mph and a man in front with a red flag was the limit of lunacy. Anyway, I feel your anguish having been through the same hair-tearing last year. PS4S will do the job. Specifically, these are the ones I’ve got:

255/35R19 96Y MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4 S XL
295/30R19 100Y MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4 S XL

I did 316 KM/H (197,5 MPH) once in mine (with the top down!).
I’m on PZero Corsa’s.
Was still accelerating but had to slow down for traffic, car felt very stable, no fuss at all.

Wow! I'd never heard of that one mate! Well managed PR! Good to know the car protected him despite being a write off. They do say they are torsionally top of the class due to VH and the bonded method also adds a lot of strength!

If I do it I'll have a couple of Go Pro's and a De-fib standing by! I do know a mate with an airport - hmmmm!?

PS4-S it is again then and the Michelin £100 cashback deal is on again (can't find fronts currently though...)

In 2007, AMOC ran an event at RAF Cottesmore including runway runs. Because it was not registered with the MSA, it was strictly non competitive so no records were kept. The runway was 8500 feet long and a rolling start was possible on the taxiway with a rolling finish possible on the taxiway at the other end, with a line of cones at 2000 feet to go to mark the start of safe braking. I recall the maximum achieved was 186mph by V8LM, and the fastest by a Gaydon car was about 175. May have been AZ. So Dewi, you may need a longer runway or a shorter safety zone if you're to achieve the double ton!

With due respect, a 2014 Rapide S has knocking on for 600hp? I would expect it to significantly outperform any Gaydon Aston from 2007, and as much as I love the LM I would have thought the more angular shape would hold it back from breaking 200 without a solid gentleman’s run up (despite similar power to a Rapide S).

Even so, there appears to plenty of YouTube footage out there of Rapide S seeing the “other side” hipegully on derestricted Autobahn!

Presumably Dewi isn’t considering trying this on a runway?!
