Doesn’t look like AM are planning on moving away from the James Bond association anytime soon. Simon has been busy again.

It really is getting somewhat tiresome imho......but I guess if they all sell it’s much needed revenue. But a new Vantage with skis on the back? Really??!!

I'm with you on the specials thing, it's been done to death it would seem.

I personally don't see any long term increased value in any of these specials, and that includes the Spitrfire etc over a straight well looked after "normal" car. I liked the Concorde DBS, however in 10 or 20 years I don't see it being worth much more than a standard DBS.

There's currently a Spitfire V12S at Cambridge for £175k with 6k on it..........or you could go to Wilmslow and buy a Flugplatz V12S with 150 miles on it for £35k less (both manual 2017's). You've got to really want the Spitfire edition to be willing to shell out 25% more for the same car with some Q options.

What do I know though.....rofl

I see the new AML management have ignored Karen's instruction, to ditch the Bond relationship. That is one recommendation down. Quite right. The Bond films have for 50 years, obtained world wide recognition for AML. It has turned out to be better publicity than Formula One, and probably far cheaper too. And to think that Aston Martin first of all, declined to provide any cars for James Bond.

I thought a special edition Vantage is stretching the theme somewhat. Don't think that car will even appear in the new film.
The DB10 was not the 2018 Vantage, it was a 4.7 manual with modified bodywork.

DB5
(Newport Pagnell) Vantage

Quite like the Spitfire version , but totally agree about the price differential.

These are just sad. It was just about OK to have a DBS in Casino Royale paint. But driving a car with 007 on the door panels and 'cross hairs on the paddle shifters and worst of all an etched 'gadget' panel - who would? A new low for AM

As they are now releasing rolled in glitter 'specials' can we assume that even AM are admitting the cars aren't selling? Looks like the endless AM run out specials of the previous model vantage, that went on too long and even the geeks on here struggle to identify the differences.

What next a DBSS with one door missing referencing a previous Bond car? Fake bullet holes? As an aside I remember them as stickers you could buy as a kid to add to any car

You guys have no sense of humor. So what if they make editions with Bond references? It’s all good fun and no one is making you buy one. They’ll sell them and they’ll show up at car shows and the general public will get a kick out of them while exposing the brand to a wider audience.

You don’t realize how few people know what an Aston Martin is, especially on this side of the Atlantic. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve had to refer to Bond before the light clicks on and someone says, “Oh, Aston Martin!” AM would make an epic blunder if they distanced themselves from Bond.

The special editions are designed to make the standard cars more attractive - the potential buyer is so relieved that you can have an Aston without tacky Halfords extras that they quickly order a standard car to their spec

The Vantage looks like it has a different nose to standard? Perhaps they're introducing a new nose again?

It's the vaned grille aperture, but with a laser cut mesh rather than slats, and a small bezel around the perimeter. I expect it's not the cheapest piece of fabrication so is unlikely to become available on the regular car unless a customer really wants it.

The timing is unfortunate, IIRC, these specials were meant to have launched in or around March, when the film was due on 12th of April. They perhaps couldn't be delayed anymore. The film's still due in November, and it's a shame it's been so delayed - Aston's involvement was the highest it's had during the franchise's history.

If there something I could change, I'd lay off the Bond tie-ups for a while, and give the DBSS a rest - it's had many, many special editions in a very short time period.

Never been one to mention the Bond connection unless genuine (DB5, V8 Vantage, DBS, original Vanquish) but you gotta admit that the kids love it. And many adults too, so why not? There isn’t another brand that can claim such a deep and genuine movie franchise connection.

Must admit I’m loving the wheel and even the yellow skirt edge paintwork on that Vantage. Perhaps it’s a primer for the next JCB edition Vantage? biggrin

Ultimately, the look has to make someone happy to make them buy. Isn’t that also the case for all “standard” AMs? Nobody has ever NEEDED one...

I think it would be a serious error if AM choose to lose the James Bond association. Of course, that decision may be beyond their control. The upcoming film is DCs last, so who knows how the franchise will develop in the future. But I agree with some of the other posters here, in that some of these 007 specials are becoming tacky overkill, although they will no doubt appeal to collectors and a certain type of customer. Personally I think I would have rather seen AM build a limited run of the older Vantage which is going to be in the new film. They would by more special than a tarted up new Vantage which has a slim tenuous connection at best. I also think they could probably charge a lot more too, in a similar way to the Goldfinger DB5 run, but perhaps lose some of the mechanical gadgets. That could make them road legal too, which would be even better.

Are the re-creations never road legal, because the old designs do not meet the current safety regulations?

I think in the UK, that situation only applies to manufacturers, whereas the owners of replica kit cars or cars such as the Vulcan, can have an individual vehicle test to obtain permission for road use. If built with a certain proportion of new parts, the dreaded Q registration mark can be avoided too.

Aston Martin and Bond link is fabulous and must remain, particularly for AM’s benefit.

Would I like a Goldfinger DB5 or a Casino Royale DBS - absolutely.

Would I buy one of these other tenuously linked incarnations - not on your Little Nellie smile

All good fun though and not worth getting stressed about.

Haha, yes indeed!

They are dragging a great brand down, hopefully the new management will take a different view

It depends which version; the Concorde Edition DBS' were snapped up within a few days. Personally I think too many limited editions of DBS Superleggera already existed before this latest round. The Tag version came very early in the life cycle, as did the Bijon.

The OHMSS edition I actually quite like - I've only seen one up close once, but it was tastefully done and had some neat touches on it. The same goes for the Concorde Edition which contains a good chunk of bespoke details and genuine Concorde sourced items and materials. Further tweaks later on included the Concorde inspired tail pipes (not shown during the unveiling), which look quite good IMO.

When you look at the DB9 GT Bond Edition, they still appear to command strong money, so while enthusiasts may look at these Bond related cars and wince, they're rare and bespoke enough to hold value better than the more typical 'mats and flaps' cars.

The Bond DB9GTs on AT have been there a while. One has been on for over a year I think, the prices are gradually dropping on them. Nice cars for what they are but a huge premium. Personally the bond connection makes me cringe, but it’s not hurting anyone so if that floats some people’s boats then good for them.
