So i have my V8V for a few years now and my insurance is £400. Changing jobs in a few weeks time and I decided to buy cheap 2nd hand motor to get me around military customer locations so dont need anything flash.
Bought a Ford Focus, TDCI, 2014. Cheap as chips but good condition.
Went to Privilege who insure the Vantage and finally got on phone to them. Knew it wasn't going to be easy as the guy was loading up "options" before giving me the basic quote cost. Told him to just tell me how much it would be to insure......£720!!!

Excuses such as "due to COVID all insurance policies have jumped"?!?!?!?!

Put the phone down, got straight on Confused.Com.....£233 with business!!

Ill be looking for someone else in Dec when the Vantage is up for renewal!!

Presumably there's no no claims on the second car? Some insurers don't like this & price accordingly.

(Just a wild guess hehe)

New to Aston ownership past few months - '09 V8 Vantage Roadster - I was surprised when my insurance was £30 cheaper than my previous car - a '14 Golf GTi. I assumed its because Aston owners are a more careful breed generally, and people don't want to buy dodgy second hand parts from cannibalised stolen cars. It's now become the first thing I mention to people (and my wife when I bought it) when I explain what car I drive 😅

Few people have collisions in Astons.
Lots of people have collisions in Ford Focus.

Obviously we all have different circumstances for insurance, so cannot really compare our premiums.
However, not 'all insurance policies have jumped'.

Last year my V8V renewal with NFU was £381.57. Now it is £343.71 (including roadside breakdown assistance).

Insurance for a fresh second car, can sometimes be complicated by the no-claims discount being attached to the original car.

Mine was just under £500 a year with £500 excess (late 30’s with 8k per annum), it was £30 cheaper to leave it on driveway rather than garaged and with Aviva they did not need the tracker subscription which saved another £200 a year.

I sold the Aston last year and now pay similar for a 118d.

This ^^^^^^^^^^^

Where one lives and age plays a large part too, as does the amount of risk an insurer has to a particular make or model. It is difficult to compare, but my 2005 DB9 is the cheapest thing I insure at £300. My Range Rover is £660, and my Cocker Spaniels were £900 each at the last quote. I "self insure" the latter two now, bless them.

I came across a really bizarre one last week. Got my RR renewal quote through from LV for £330. As I have 2 other cars with Admiral (one is the Aston, combined the policy is around £800 a year) I thought I would try and add the RR, keep everything in one place, yadda yadda. Quote from Admiral £2500 to add and cover the RR! Er, no thanks.

I have my DB9 with Admiral. Peviously I had my LR Freelander as well on a multicar policy. Like you I got a shock when they wanted 2 grand to add the Range Rover. Admiral are obviously full up on RR risk where I live in Surrey.

The spate of 'keyless entry' cars being stolen involves Range Rovers.
Maybe some insurers are reacting, if they are having too many claims.

scratchchin Where has OP gone? Has he just realised he's tried to use NCB on two different vehicles? hehe

Always an odd one that - its not the vehicle that claims, its the driver! And the claim malingers and follows the driver around but not the lovely NCB!

I recall when I got the Aston they gave me 5 years NCB as I'd never claimed in over 10 years. Some wanted thousands ' as I had no NCB' so that first phone call was an absolute heart stopper!

I just swapped my 911 for V8V, I saved £20 on my insurance. Per year.
Roughly equivalent to the extra road tax. Per month.
