Hi All

How quickly should my 2012 V8VS take to get up to temp?

I drove just under 10 miles yesterday and it was only just getting to normal operating temperature. Is this right or is there a chance I need to replace the thermostat?

Thanks

I have not studied this precisely, but certainly my temperature guage points to the mid point within 2 miles.

If yours repeatedly takes 10 miles, then as you say, probably new thermostat time.

4.7 V8 (not an 'S') but usually at mid point within 2-3 miles at most. IIRC there is an equivalent Ford or Volvo thermostat that fits (not sure re S though), think it is mentioned in the equivalent parts thread. Swapping it out, if you're happy to DIY it, might be the cheapest method of diagnosis.

Agree. Definitely not 10 miles, more like 3 as others have said. Mine is a 2014MY V8VS.

Better to measure in time rather than miles. Most cars get up to temp between 10 and 15 mins. I've found the Aston I've had all get up to temp at the lower end of that range

Thermostat. Had it with my V8. See BR YouTube vid on the subject.

It’s a very common problem, and I had the same thing happen on my previous V8V. The needle on the gauge would only go to about a quarter of the way up, no matter how long I drove it. In addition to the BR video, there is a detailed description of how to replace the thermostat in the FAQs section of this forum, and it can be replaced with a Jaguar part. If you have the time, the patience, and the required small hands, it could be worth a try. Good luck.

I put a digital thermometer and pressure sensor on the LH bank of my DB9 V12. I wanted to be able to accurately measure pressure and temp from startup to shutdown.

The water temperature comes up much more quickly than oil (no surprise there based on thermal mass). My oil takes about 10 minutes to warm up, a good 5 minutes after the water temp goes to the middle. And my oil pressure at idle doesn't drop below 50 (high of 75) until the oil is 150F or so.

This is why race engines pre-heat their oil. They want it to flow even when the tolerances are tight as the block heats up. A good reason to run the 0-40 oil that is spec'd for the motor.
