I'm hoping you good people can help me.

I have a 55 reg DB9 which I bought private 3 years ago. The previous owner lost the service book but was kind enough to buy a new one and get a couple of the stamps re-done.

The car was originally supplied to a Mr N Hamblen by AM Mayfair. The gentleman I bought it from (2nd owner) got it through the Timeless program from AM Hagley, which no longer exists (was part of Stratstone).

After calling AM Wilmslow (Stratstone) about a service, the very helpful Keith told me he had some records from Hagley about the work they had done on the car before retailing it, including a major service and Wilmslow also stamped the book for me - very handy!

The first two services I have recorded are at AM Western Avenue but there's a gap in the records from 11611 miles in Oct 2008 to 25491 in June 2014 when it was at Hagley.

It was MoT'd every year in this period with an increase in mileage. I'm absolutely certain that as the car was between 3 and 9 years old in this period that a) it was under AM warranty for at least some of the years and b) it wouldn't have entered the Timeless program unless it had a full AM history so it must've been serviced at an AM dealer somewhere, or at least an approved specialist!!

I have called several dealership groups and a few specialists (mainly in the south of England because it was MoT'd in the south) to enquire if the car has been with them, to no avail.

Any help appreciated. Damien

I've had some luck with this before by looking at the mot centre during the gap I'm searching for, either because they've done work to the car, known the owner or have been near a specialist which used them for mots. Assuming the mot centre for that period couldn't have done the servicing, are there any aston dealers or specialists nearby to it which could have done?

Thanks Dom. I looked at this too. All of the MoTs except one are SW London, the other is North London. I've tried most of the dealers around there (i'm sure I have anyway) there's only a few

Have the same problem. Though I do have a full service book of AM dealer stamps I don't have the history except MOT, fortunately having always passed. My AM dealer says he can't pull down the records due to GDPR. My argument is that GDPR is in the main to protect the individual and the information that may be held electronically about that person. A car is an inanimate object and hence any information held could be shared with names etc redacted. I've not won that discussion - yet.

The good old, I cannot be bothered, so it is due to data protection laws.

Before I agreed to buy my car from an MD, I enquired about the maintenance history.
A computer printout was then given to me, listing everything from the pre-delivery inspection onwards.

It probably all depends, on whether you might be about to hand over a sizeable amount of money. - wink

Expect you already know, but DVLA will issue a vehicle history. The last time I used this service, it showed me the names and addresses of each previous owner.

Might be handy if you want to contact an earlier owner.

Registration because there's no record of it having a plate transfer

I tried it. I explained I was only the third owner and I'd like to have the records etc. They rejected it! The once did it for me on a Capri no problem!

Perhaps the data protection rule change a couple of years ago, has meant that service has been withdrawn.
Does the previous keepers name and address still appear on newly issued Registration Certificates? If they are legally allowed to reveal one back keeper, then why not the keeper before that?

They presumably still keep the private parking firms fed with 'confidential' information, to avoid upsetting their lucrative business model.

It all seems very contradictory.

Did you source the MoT station locations from actual MoT certificates?
It is not revealed when doing an online history check.

The DVLA said I didn't give enough of a reason to warrant the information (or similar)
If you use the online MoT check and select test location, it asks you to put in the current V5 number and it then gives you the address etc

This appears to indicate that DVLA changed their history service in 2017.
