As you were...,
Discussion
Rob,
As you will have seen, that topic was highjacked by someone new to this forum.
There was no, "Hello I'm new here, and this is a photo of my new Aston Martin".
It was just firing both barrels from the first post. Couldn't really understand. It appeared to just be nonsense.
Think the moderators must have sorted that person out. Thankfully, we never heard anymore.

I think that's why most people are in Facebook Groups, WhatsApp groups and Instagram, to avoid the keyboard warriors, morons and trolls.

I did the same for the same reason (and others) but I'm back now and enjoying it again so far.

Another is having a bit of fun. So I'm concentrating on maxing out on those and (trying) to choose not to dwell on the b
hy comments/threads.There will always be those that think net worth (and displaying it to all around you) is the only thing that matters but they're wrong. Happiness is what matters and if you derive your happiness from being unpleasant to others then I feel sorry for you.
So I'd appeal to people not to give up on this forum because I learnt an awful lot here that continues to enhance my AM ownership.

Ladies and gentlemen, here we have the winner of the Nigel for Best Post of 2020. Just wanted to chip in and say that I agree that the odd d
head post/thread should be tolerated as, in my opinion at least, the benefits of PH by far outweigh the costs. Particularly as it's free.
I'm a member of AMOC but my first "port of call" for information on my V8V is always PH (I may occasionally pose the same question in the appropriate AMOC forum on the off-chance a specific knowledge-holder doesn't post here). I've seen some incredibly thoughtful and useful information on here, some of which I have bookmarked for future reference, and I try to share what little knowledge and experience I have for the greater good. Sure, there are some people who don't even seem to have read the question before they post an answer that doesn't actually apply, but isn't that true of people in general? They are by far outnumbered by people who chip in with replies that are genuinely intended to help a fellow Aston owner.
There are a few idiots and trolls who post, sometimes to the point of hijacking a thread completely. I have been known to make the odd comment or two but these days I mostly ignore them (unless a tempting mot juste comes readily to mind), starving them of the attention that they clearly didn't get enough of as children. If two or more get started in a thread then that acts as a useful containment area, which allows the adults to carry on in the rest of the forum undisturbed.
We can't manage these people, but what we can do is manage our reaction to them. If nobody ever rose to the bait they'd soon get bored and go elsewhere.

And now for something completely irrelevant....................
Meaning of 'don' at the end of a place name...
Croydon: (where I went to skool)
The meaning of the place names seems to be open to argument, but perhaps the most logical are saffron valley from the pre 6th century "crog - denu", although crows valley or crows hill, are also possible.
Gaydon: (where my car was built)
First recorded as Gaidone in the Pipe Rolls of that county in 1195 and as Geydon in 1285, the first element is believed to be the Olde English pre 7th Century personal name Gega from the pre 7th century Olde English word "gaegan", meaning to turn aside, with the word "dun", meaning a hill or mountain and hence "Gaega's Hill".

I'm not for a moment doubting your etymological or place-name research, but having driven to Gaydon many times I'd hardly describe it as on a hill. Sure it's flat, one of the reasons it was chosen for a WWII airbase which was used extensively during the Second World War, being opened in July 1942 and immediately occupied by No. 12 Operational Training Unit (OTU) as a satellite of RAF Chipping Warden operating Vickers Wellingtons and Avro Ansons, training pilots from a number of Allied nations, but mainly Canadian, Czech and New Zealanders. The topological map, below, shows the land around Gaydon, with the spot height flag being at the JLR/AML site
Perhaps it was named "Gaega's Hill" by someone who lived in Wellesbourne?
