Question re buying an imported car
Discussion
Hello all,
I am looking to sell my 993 and move to a Vantage. My budget is likely to be top end 3.8 bottom end 4.7. I have seen a 4.7 that has the spec i am ideally looking at and is well priced - but is an import (from Ireland). I am assuming its apparent good price is because of this? I haven’t viewed the car so this may not be the case. Is the used Vantage market wary of imports especially when it comes to resale? Thanks

Possibly yes. It introduces extra unknowns.
Are you looking for a manual, or Sportshift?
If the latter, a PHer has advertised a very low mileage 4.7, at probably a lower price than the car deserves.
Look at the 'Selling an Aston' topic and you then should be able to locate the OP's advert for full details.

Its hardly importing from the other side of the world, so as long as its RHD, service is good and it checks out then it'll be fine and I can't for one minute imagine it would have a lower resale value.
Thanks,I would agree - coming from the 993 world any small thing tends to be an issue, although that might just be forum chatter.

I assume you are importing from Southern Ireland ? If so DVLA list the actions you need to take. If from the North then you can bring the car into GB freely. Apologies if you know that already (I'm always amazed at how many don't). In terms of service history, there is only one MD in Ireland - Charles Hurst in Belfast. A phone call to these guys and they might give you some background ?

It’s not one I am importing but one that has been. As you note it does originate from Charles Hurst so thanks for the tip re finding out its background, if I go down this route. Edited by AlistairMcD on Friday 16th October 10:41
Thanks for the tips and I look forward to future ownership.
It is worth checking where the car was first registered. It is not unknown for non Euro spec cars to find their way to Ireland before being imported into the UK.
It was also a common trick a few years back to export a cat c/d salvage car to Ireland and bring it back to remove the cat marker.
