Owners manual recommends Mobil 1 0W-40 engine oil for my 2010 V12V. Given the manual is is nearly 11 years old is this still the oil to use or does anyone use anything different?

Oh forgot to add. How long does an unopened container of oil last? Found 5 litres of unopened Mobil 1 in garage loft. Could be anything between 5 and 8 years old I reckon. Is it safe to use?

Mobil1 0w40 is still an excellent oil.
If it is recommended by Aston, do not change brands or type.
As for the deadline, i would not go beyond 4 years old

I have used Mobil 1 every year in mine and shelf life for the oil is about four, five-year max.

Top oil, used it for years. I suppose Castrol and equivalents are good too but for me, never cheap oils in high performance engines.

I would rate Motul 300v over Mobil, based purely on what a few Porsche engine builders have told me. Mobil 0w40 thins quite quickly I believe to a 0w30, whereas 300v stays in grade for longer but only really recommended for 7-8k miles due to a lack of detergents.

Not cheap though compared to Mobil, which you can get from Costco for £30 for 5 litres. Motul 300v would be more than double this.
