DB9 Steering Movement

Hi there
My 2005 DB9 has developed an annoying habit ! It has very slight but discernible movement at the steering wheel that feels like movement in the column rather than the rack or wheels ! I believe these steering columns are shared across various jaguar models and I wondered whether anyone has experienced similar symptoms or are aware of possible solutions . I think I read somewhere that there is an element of adjustment / tightening available via a grub screw but that might be my colourful memory kicking in !!

There was an issue with rattling steering wheels/air bags in early cars IIRC. And there was some kind of adjustment, but not remembering exactly what.

I had this on my previous 2009MY Vantage. As you say, it felt like the steering wheel was slightly loose on the column but was in fact the airbag being slightly loose in the steering wheel causing a "clunk" on turning the wheel sometimes. Dealer fixed FOC (?warranty ?part of recent purchase) and I think involved a new spring or something securing the airbag in the wheel.

Thanks guys . Any chance of this being addressed by a competent mechanic or is this a specialist job ? I have a guy who looks after my other cars and is relatively insightful and skilled .

Thanks again . Great heads up. I'll show my go to guy but I'm concerned it's more of a 'notch ' feeling rather than a loose rattle as such . More like there's a wee bit of play there before the column reaches the rack . There's nothing evident on the rack /bushes and it all looks fairly tight at the business end ! Any one know if there is an adjustment in the column itself ?

Hey all ..Reseurecting this thread as I've had a busy year and not resolved the issue yet . Definitely feels notchy rather than a loose rattle . Any ideas ?

Hard to diagnose from afar, but I am unimpressed with how the column in my DB9 attaches to the rack. If the bolt or rivet fail, it could be a bad day. I ended up safety wiring mine. I assume you've looked at that joint - it comes off when you drop the motor, which is why I was in there...

H8 . Thanks for the reply . I haven't looked at that but I'm going to have to get my mechanic to do just that and start there . I need to get it sorted before hibernation kicks in !!
