I updated it too with Volvo discs borrowed from, uhm, the interwebs. The logo is fine. It is also true I can't seem to see it often, just if the sat nav was open before you turned the car off last time and since I am OCD and turn off everything before turning off the car, it is never. Otherwise, if you open it while driving, it shows directly the simple/advanced choice. At least for me.
As for the battery conditioner needed: yes, but the procedure can be paused by turning the car off and will resume next time you use it, I did it over the course of 2-3 drives.

Is 2015 the most up to date we can get with this system?
Where are people purchasing the updae discs from?
Yes 2015 seems to be the latest maps available for the earlier DVD based satnavs, I bought a set of 3 Europe maps including a software upgrade disc on Ebay for £30 new.Where are people purchasing the updae discs from?

You can get the latest maps with speed camera placements etc on disk, you don't need to have 2015 maps. But I would recommend plugging in a battery conditioner just in case while you do it as it does take 3 to 4 hours to update.
Thanks for the heads up about the 3 to 4 hours.xstaticx said:
On a similar subject, I updated a MY10 to the 2017/8 Volvo Maps. It took a couple of hours, and works fine but insists on having the disk inserted in the controller. Does anyone else have this?
Yes, it's normal. It's done to prevent you reselling or passing around the disc once done.2017/18 BTW it the latest year available for Volvo-based HDD systems.
