I saw that, but cannot believe it.
The engine, electronics and battery deal with Mercedes-Benz, must surely have a change of control clause.
That would be quite a hurdle, to even keep production flowing, now that AML are so reliant on those components.

Thanks Pete. Maybe I just worry too much.
List prices
Evoque = 368,000 yuan
X7 ....... = 120,000 yuan
"there's also a possibility that Aston Martin could be bought again..."
BYD is the leading EV company in China. Their intention is to become the global leader and they may pass Tesla and VW soon.
They "probably" want to expand into European markets - but how could an acquisition of a major stake in AML help? Not at all in my opinion.
If I would want to enter the European market I would not consider to buy a company with a dealer network.
The future (not only with EV) is sale directly from the producing company via internet - leaving out any independent or affiliated dealer.
Repair and maintenance of EV is significantly reduced and would require different skills compared to current shops.
BYD is mass market, not luxury segment.
Could they provide an EV-platform for AML to use for a EV-version of the DBX? Probably, but who would buy that car?
I do not see any fit for such a possible transaction.
But: It could be a social prestige thing of the management, the same way as VW did with Bugatti and Ducati.

I'm not sure what point you are making with the pictures, Jon, but the Landwind X7 was the subject of copyright action by JLR; one of the few that has been upheld in Chinahttps://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/mar/22/j...
Easy money? Unless you are making vaccines or face masks right now, nothing is easy and certainly car manufacturing and motorsports in what will be a prolonged pandemic will not be easy money. There are still many months, maybe years of uncertain times ahead...
That said I do think the Chinese giants are set to make a number of such take overs of historic and established western brands / marques in the years to come as they inevitably become the new global super power.
It will be a sad day if it happens and I suspect the brand wont be what it was going forward if this happens, but it will as said above only cement the value of all the cars already built from each and every of the prior era's. Equally the inevitable end of ICE will largely mean that will happen anyway, just a matter of which drives the timeline soonest.
As for if Stroll will be able to resist such an offer? I suspect it all depends on if he values making a few $$$ more than he already has or if he just wants to put his name down in history as the man who took Aston Martin to the next chapter and to F1 success. Not everyone has their price, but then I don't know enough about Stroll to comment either way on this point.

Interest rates are zero. The Chinese economy is growing. They have cash and asset valuations are all over the place. I'm not saying AM sale is a done deal but it isn't an outlandish proposition. As far as the end of ICE goes I am already calculating what to buy and when to keep my garage full. In the long term we are all going to die off and ICE will become a historic curio....but that isn't something for me to fret about! That said I do think the Chinese giants are set to make a number of such take overs of historic and established western brands / marques in the years to come as they inevitably become the new global super power.

Don't know why, clearly very different cars. I mean look at the headlights and side repeaters, even the rear quarter window is different!! https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/mar/22/j...
