Hi All,

This post is intended for info for all Vantage owners.

Visited Bamford Rose yesterday to have my Tracker disconnected.
After checking, there was a issue with the tracker that could have resulted in the engine not starting.
While there also had some error code items disconnected.

Lots of info about tracker issues on the net, worth just checking so you don't get caught out.

I have no connection to Bamford Rose, just used them for the first time yesterday.

They disconnected mine last year, it was a similar thing - a long read out of errors associated with it from AMDS.

Mine had been driving me mad - killed off 2 batteries, and would drain a new one in less than 2 weeks. No battery issues whatsoever now, and the same battery has weathered 3 lockdowns!

My local AM indy just disconnected the tracker on my 2008 V8 Roadster, remember to inform/check with your insurance company and also a nice saving of £250 per year on the tracker subscription.

Guess it does not matter unless people are posting their registration, address or details of where the tracker is located and how to disconnect.

On the subject of trackers i was really impressed recently when I renewed my insurance, and one the most competitive quotes was from Performance Direct, they asked about a tracker. My original factory fitted tracker is disabled, I never paid the subscription on it since ive owned the car.

Performance Direct provide their own tracker free of charge and you have to fit it under terms of their insurance. No subscription fees or anything. Its a tracker Nano, a standalone and battery powered small cube, you just hide it somewhere in the car. No battery drain issues.

Im sure its built into the cost somewhere, it does makes sense for the insurer to protect themselves against a total loss.

Sounds good but are you sure they're not using it as a "Black Box" Bogie? Is it only "active" if you inform them that the car has been stolen?

You are clearly not a suspicious gentleman, bogie.

What you said would have been true, until someone mentioned that all VH cars will eventually have to have ................
Certain types would then not need .......

Yeah no mention of "black box" they didn't offer that option. Yes you need to inform Tracker the car is stolen, it comes with instructions from Tracker to that effect. It was a like a retail tracker package shipped direct from Tracker and then contact tracker to enable it as normal.

...the battery would not last long if it was monitoring/reporting all the time. Those "black box" systems are connected to the car electricity supply. Typically a low power GPS tracker will report in just a few times per day, or if/when the car moves out of its home location. Then you may get up to 3 years battery life. If used to track the car in real time the battery would be expired much sooner...weeks perhaps, depends on polling interval.

mmm...yeah...just noticed the blanket statement

so all 1st gen owners should go and get a cheap/free battery tracker fitted smile

Just checked Tracker website and cannot see the exact same product, it could be OEM version of their "retrieve" battery powered product which retails at £249 and £149 a year. Its a one time use product, which makes sense as the battery would be flat after single use.

The OEM deal with insurers must be much cheaper than that, when I had it included on a £280 policy

I think it was approx £140, AMDS is required to tell the car the tracker is not there any more

Leave your car for 3 weeks without a trickle charger and see if it still starts.
