Glass key dock pinout?
Discussion
Good evening everyone. I'm part way through converting my old Volvo ignition system to the Aston Glass Key on my 2007MY V8 Vantage Roadster. So far I've successfully managed to move the PATS from the old key cylinder to the new key dock. In the meantime I'm a little stumped on the pin out for the actual harness on the glass key dock. Does anyone know the pin numbering for the white 12 pin connector (pictured below)? I have the wiring diagrams, but I'm not sure of the actual harness pin out, so matching the correct wire to the correct pin is proving to be a struggle.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

My memory contains many snippets, of often incomplete Aston Martin information.
Are you sure this adaption is possible? Delving into the distant past, I think I heard this mentioned as something which cannot be done.
The source might have been a BR video, talking about various improvements.
Would be brilliant though, if you can make it work.

Yes, it's definitely doable. The prohibitive cost has always been mentioned as a barrier, but that isn't necessarily the case. I was quoted just over £7k for the bits to do this, the most costly part being a new wiring loom, and this also includes new trim pieces for the base of the steering wheel, which really aren't needed. However, the loom is only needed for the harness into the actual key reader. The female port required can actually be purchased for about £15 as long as you are handy enough with wiring to wire it up.
In total it's cost me less than £400 for everything to do it. I got the key Dock and bracket for £160 on ebay and found a glass key for £225. I already had a 4.7 ski slope/waterfall which I'd purchased for £90 a year or so ago. The parts required are:
Glass key
Key dock
Updated bracket for the key dock
Updated ski slope/waterfall
It's then simply a case of extending the wiring for the PATS from the existing key cylinder to the dock and relocating your existing PATS reader to it. The ignition wiring also needs to be extended to the dock. All the rest of the wiring is in place from the original start switch and just needs to be attached to the new female harness. The only thing stopping me now is matching up the pins. As soon as I'm able to find out the pin numbering it will be a half hour job at most to finish it.
Once I'm done I'll do a full write up on here with step by step instructions.

I've got the DB9 early circuit diagrams but not the glass key type.
It looks like 4 pins will be the push to start, double pole, one normally open one normally closed, then a few others for the illumination to start then the illumination when the dash lights are on, 7 in total.
You need someone here with the glass key circuit diagrams

Thinking about this abit more, the glass key combines the key Ignition on and the engine stop start button so you will have to work out which ones are for the ignition on off etc.
Plus how does the glass key latch into the dock, is it electrical or mechanical? If electrical that needs to ne looked at also.
A circuit diagram of the glass key start will be so helpful.
Hope this helps.

I have the circuit diagrams of both the 4.3 and 4.7 systems which I've also colour coded to match the wires from the start stop switch and the ignition wiring.
Here is the original system on the 4.3

And here is the Glass Key system

So far I have successfully extended the PATS wiring and PATS reader to the glass key dock. Now it's just a case of wiring the existing wiring to the correct pins on the 12 pin harness that goes into the back of the dock. That would seem to be a case of attaching the relevant wires from the ignition loom and start stop harness to the corresponding pin for that wire on the 4.7 diagram. The only two anomalies are the GND wire (Pin 5 on the 4.7 diagram) which I assume I can just ground in the normal way and Pin 7 which would need to connect to wire to the Driver Information Module. C2453-3 and C2453-5 need to be permanently closed off and C0028-3 and C0586-3 would be left open?

Neither should need reprogramming if you transfer your existing PATS sensor to the key dock and replace the glass key innards with those from your existing Volvo key. The transponders are different types in the two keys. The original Volvo transponder was a 4C, the newer glass keys are ID46 chips. I was able to find a Timpson near me that was able to copy one to the other, but it took several different branches to find one with a machine capable of copying the chip to the newer version.
