Apologies if this has been asked before, I haven't been able to find an answer searching elsewhere.

Mine is a 2009 4.3 litre with function to play music via an i-pod or USB. I'm not an Apple convert so set about trying all manner of USB devices including an old Sony walkman, a specific Samsung YP-U2 player and a few other things but none seem to work. The display in the car says 'Unreadable'. So can anyone help with what USB device does work on these systems?

I have the stock 160 watt AM system

Not sure if it might be the same, but the MY 2009 Vantage has a USB socket in the centre elbow rest storage compartment.
I have an ordinary USB memory stick plugged in to that socket.

Using Mode on the radio controls, I select (cannot remember) either USB or Aux, then it plays the mp3 music files, which I loaded on to the memory stick. Obviously James Bond is amongst the tracks.

I ought to amend those music files, to incorporate title information, which would then display each track title on the radio screen.

Thanks Jon,

Yes sounds the same as mine. I select USB on the centre display but keep getting unreadable. Can you post up an image of the USB device you have please?

Regards,

Jon.

Jon. What format are the files you are trying to play?

MP3. Both the Sony and the Samsung have MP3 files stored on them

How is the USB device formatted? Does your Aston manual list acceptable formats? It's possible your devices are formatted the wrong way. With a USB stick you can format in different ways, not sure if you can alter the format of a proprietary iPod-style device, though. Just a thought...

Good point, I will check the owners manual again and then check the devices I have, thanks.

Formant the USB.

Plug the USB into your computer. Open up the USB driver and create a folder called music.

Drag your music in the 'music' file.

Plug in car and it should now play.

BiggaJ - you need to use just a plain old USB memory stick. Not a USB media player.... Sounds to me like you are trying to connect a media player - that will not work.

Just format a USB stick with a standard FAT file system, and then save MP3 files (ideally 320k for top quality) onto it in folders like this:

/Artist1/Album1/Track1.mp3
/Artist1/Album1/Track2.mp3
/Artist2/Album1/Track1.mp3

where Artist or Album or Track is actually the full name of said item!

Hope this help.

Thanks. Just done this, put it in the car and it plays (of a fashion) it skips as though you are fast forwarding a CD. Taken it back out of the car and plugged it back into my computer and it plays perfectly. I'm using a SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 freshly formatted.

Is there a limit on the size of memory allowable on the USB stick? I'm using a 16gb stick.

Hmmm, Ive not heard of any problems but perhaps try an older USB stick. The older AMi I system that you have only supported USB2.0, that's not to say USB3.0 won't work, but these things aren't always as forwardly compatible as you thin, so maybe try a USB 2.0 if you can find one.

16Gb capacity is fine though, I used to use a 16Gb stick with my V12V that had the same AMi I system you have.

Failing that try a reformat of the disc and start again. It could just be a faulty USB stick to be fair, Ive had my fair share fail on me over the years.

Many thanks Adam, I've order a 16gb USB 2.0 stick from Amazon, will try again tomorrow when it arrives. I dont think the stick I have is faulty as it plays perfectly on my laptop. It was only £3.99 so not an issue if the new one doesn't work either.

Tha ks for all those posting on here with advice.

It seems to be the case the system in my car does not like USB 3.0 as it skips like listening to a CD on fast forward but happily plays USB 2.0.
