Hi all a bit of advise required please . I own a 2009 v8 vantage sportshift , the last time it went to aston works for its annual service they did a complete re learn for the clutch . The gear changes when on the move are fine the issues I have are the following , when releasing my foot from the foot brake the car decides wether it goes straight to crawl , ie 6 miles an hour , which when trying to park in a tight spot makes you look a bit of a t**t , or allows me to stop this by touching the accelerator and therefore gain control . There is sometimes a delay when pulling off and sometimes the odd judder all of which are in consistent . I have owned the car 8 years its done 14000 miles and I do the clutch learn every time . My question is will the twin plate clutch get rid of these issues ? is the car wishing to go straight to crawl when the foot brake is released even related ? again it does this sometimes and is fine others , advise please from people with sportshift that have had the twin plate fitted please, thanks

If you don't get a reply, it would be worth phoning David Appleby Engineering or Bamford Rose, as they will likely have a clear and definitive answer

My V8V has SSII which doesn't have the "crawl" function and, apart from being gentle with the throttle to avoid transmission shunt, I have no issues manoeuvring, accepting the Himalayan tallness of reverse. It might be worth exploring if " crawl" can be disabled and re-enabled in AMDS - you could then get DAE or BR to switch it off and see if that makes things better.

I find it significant that they left "crawl" off SSII - I think they were trying to make SSI behave like a conventional auto, with torque converter creep.

There is a Bamford Rose video about this exact subject.
I did not pay close attention when watching, because my gearchange is manual, but some tweaks were mentioned as improvements to the shift.

When I enquired about disabling the crawl function Aston works said this was not possible to do

Aston Works will also tell you it's not possible to disable the function that will prevent the car engaging gear (and thus stranding you) when the clutch wear value reaches a certain digital limit, even if the clutch is getting close to worn but still works. No advance warning, it just turns off so you have to call out a trailer. Works will also tell you that you can't put a twin-plate clutch in a SportShift I or II. Now I've got a lot of time for Works and they clearly do great work (my V8V will be off there when lockdown ends to fix something my local dealer's bodyshop bodged), but both of the earlier facts are because Works are limited to what Aston Martin officially says dealers can do, something that independents aren't limited to.

Mike at Bamford Rose says they can and do disable the digital clutch kill function; they also put twin-plate clutches in SS transmissions. I'd ask him if the "crawl" function can be temporarily disabled.

Will a twin plate clutch get rid of any of my issues or are they all about smother gear changes at speed
