Now i know what you're thinking ones a Sports Car the other a GT (ish) and big diff in price.

I'm looking at buying a low mileage in either of these, not sure whether to push boat out and really go for it with the new DBS, i'm now seeing models around the £165K mark now and it's quite tempting. I'll only be taking it out in the dry, it wont be used day to day so mileage will stay low and then in a year or so probably look to change. Obvs depreciation is a consideration.

Thoughts anyone!

It's unlikely you'll get a positive recommendation for either car on this forum (you'll be guided towards a Vanquish S instead I expect). But the two cars you mention are quite different in character; if it was my money, the DBSS would edge it. While it's labelled as a GT car, dynamically it's nearly as agile as the Vantage just physically a bit larger (after a few miles you soon get used to the footprint). At the same time, the Vantage in its softest settings is a great GT car. The damping on each allows for whatever mood takes you.

Some will argue the Vantage is under powered and the DBSS overpowered; in my experience, they're well judged respectively - but where the Vantage can be hustled in most situations, the DBS needs a bit more room when you let it off the leash properly, it can cover ground quite quickly but it's by no means intimidating.

The only way you'll know which is right for you is to test drive both. I'd advise trying the Vantage first, because a few minutes in a DBS make whatever you sit in next feel quite slow, and in reality the Vantage is more than adequate on the road.

Good luck on the journey to whatever you end up with thumbup

Thanks NFC, once i get behind the wheel i guess i'll know, hopefully after Easter.
Interesting what you say about Vanquish but i thought both these models had been very well received, i know new Vantage front is not to everyone's taste but i think it's a grower but for DBSS i haven't really seen a bad review re looks, torque seems to be an issue esp in wet !!! but most journo's i thought were raving about it saying best Aston yet ! Currently i'm driving a L/R Defender 2015 110, only thing this has in common with either of these is fuel consumption!hehe

DBSS

Although you will lose more money in depreciation. Assume both depreciate by 30% its a bigger actual monetary loss on the DBSS

Thanks Neil, the 30% what time frame is that based on, also assume it will depend on mileage ? just for info i'm looking at 2019 models.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. Assume they both deprecate at the same percentage rate, The monetary loss is obviouly higher on the bigger starting number. 30% was just a random number
Not sure there are enough DBSS out there to accurately see the actual deprecation
Vantage looking like ~ 40% depreciation after 3 years

It's somewhat crystal ball predictions when it comes to future values - if you took a few hypothetical cars, and some quick numbers based on where finance houses see the market heading (for this scenario, Alphera as that's the in-house option, you might find more favourable figures at DSG though):

2019 Vantage: Currently £96,950
3 years @ 6000 mile per year, GFV: £56k
Depreciation: £40,950 (42.3%)

2019 DBSS: Currently £169,900
3 years @ 6000 miles per year, GFV: £93k
Depreciation: £76,900 (45.3%)

Now regardless of whether they're financed or cash purchases, both are likely to lose a chunk of money. That's the reality following last year's market wide residual value adjustment. Prior to that, GFV's had been artificially over inflated solely to help get monthly payments down, and since 75% of new Astons are financed these days, future values of all the cars are very much driven by where the lender sees values of the ones it's renting to customers.

Some will argue that it makes an older, last gen car look more appealing. There's a belief regarding naturally aspirated cars holding their money better than the current range. I'm sure there'll be exceptions - and the story might change a few years down the road, but another example below on this day in history - lenders refuse to be romantic about the last gen cars at the moment:

2018 Vanquish S Ultimate Volante: Currently £189,950 (having covered just 500 odd miles)
3 years @ 6000 miles per year, GFV: £75,800
Depreciation: £114,150 (60.1%)

That seems a lot of depreciation for a car that's already 3 years old, and was expected to have bottomed up. The truth is that few high performance ICE equipped cars are going to have an easy time of it when it comes to retaining value between now and 2030 IMO.

All that said, I believe the best course of action is to find a car you gel with, and enjoy every single mile while it's not deemed socially irresponsible, because in 9 years time, it wont matter if it did or didn't have turbochargers, they'll all be regarded as the spawn of Satan by government.

What colour DBSS are you buying? laugh

Both are wonderful cars, but very different (and the dosh involved). AMV is still more GT than 911 sport imho, but the 'experience' is unlike anything else I have owned.

Latest DBSS is on my wish list and the way prices are moving through £160-150k it wont be too long (i hope).

Ton of thanks guys. NFC errrrrrr you're not wrong that is a ton of depreciation, food for thought. Are we really sure that 2030 won't get pushed back !!! Also i can see someone being the Spawn of the Devil if they are blatting around in a 20 year old Jeep Cherokee TD but i'm thinking that a V8, V10 , V12 will become sort after and a thing of beauty, a curiosity even nostalgic they don;t make em like they used too with values rising , perhaps im deluded!
Errrr also been looking at McLaren GT as value looks astonishing but didn't want to out myself on here but in for a penny in for 125k odd !

NFC forgot the colour, they had a V8 Vantage in AM Bristol i was looking at, not prepared to do this on a computer screen without actually seeing and test driving so i missed out but below is how the young Gentleman from AM described it, anyway it really floated my boat, there's a DBSS in same colour on YT being reversed out of a showroom in LA in same colour, have to confess a bit of wee came out when i saw it.

The Paintwork is actually Onyx Black Metallic, but the car then has a full Satin "stealth effect" Matt Paint protection film applied, this not only makes the car appear as if painted in Matt finish.
