Will send it to BR for a ppi if I go ahead anyway. I haven't a clue what I'm doing when it comes to mechanical stuff, leave that to the experts.
One big concern is the owner only bought it in November, and didn't have any decent recent for why its up for sale now... big red flag!

For £40K you should get a nice 2007/8 car, maybe even later, so after the first facelift and you get the original (more elegant IMO) body style, before the more creased body changes. Much better seats, better options for wheels. Check the oil dipstick has been changed to the shorter version, check for corrosion around door handles, wing mirrors and rear subframe (all fixable). Obviously make sure it has a robust service history. Other options you can add later at reasonable cost - e.g. Fuse 22 switch to make the engine note better, glass PRND switches, updated Volvo satnav DVD, a CTEK 5.0 battery conditioner with adaptor to plug in the boot, decent OBD reader to check and eliminate frequent warnings about tyre pressures, emissions etc.

What was the change in the seats? I didn't find the 04 seats very comfy at all..so that gives hope for a newer model How can you tell if a 07 car is the updated one? (looking at one on Saturday)

Front headrests sit above the seat on the later cars whereas the headrest was integral with the backrest on the early cars.
Unless you are concerned with a later resale value, just go for any options that YOU in particular want. I was not bothered with cruise or bluetooth as it makes the steering wheel too fussy for my liking. Mine has heated seats that I was not bothered about and there are far better maintenance chargers out there at far less than the Ctek. Sat nav is dire anyway (although not an option) and most smartphones now have far superior nav systems built in. TPMS is completely overpriced and unreliable, so luckily my early car had the "stuck on" display, that didnt work, so I just got rid of it.
I agree a reasonable EOBD code reader is almost essential to delete all the spurious codes and despite owning a £10k Snap-On scanner, still needed to purchase the small Aston specific code reader, as the Snap-On does not cover the Aston Martin Marque. I keep the cheapo in the boot with the other tools.
If you get a Volante, install the DBS Coupe roll bars, its a great upgrade, and I installed HID's to my main beams.

Not really, buyer could have bought it cheap, or on a whim, or her indoors moaned continuously, he could have had a bill from a dealer for service, not used it due to Covid, lost his job or had nowhere to park it safely.
I owned a 2004 DB9 as it's second owner for about 5 yrs... and sold it 4 yrs ago to a very lovely Scottish gentleman. I remember the relief when he saw my car because he'd viewed a lot of early cars and was hugely disappointed in the general condition they were in - particular with regard to paintwork... stone chips, scuffs and many with paint bubbling... but also with tired interiors (faded ski slope, worn leather etc.). As has been said above, all of this is very fixable - and can be done for sensible money (which can be negotiated in the price) - but be prepared this potential. Of course, I am sure there are many examples out there where this has all be addressed and cars have had the right money spent on them. Paperwork evidence is important. And of course I would always endorse someone like Bamford Rose to do an inspection as I can't talk to what's going on underneath the car. Good luck - they are epic cars and generally mechanically bullet proof.

Sat in an 07 car today, and the seats are a major improvement. Not much space as a passenger but it is what it is.
My only reservation is I have been told by a couple of people in the industry that a DB9 as a daily driver (8-10k/year) will be unreliable and expensive to maintain.
My research says it should be ok with £1-2k of maintenance allowance per year... but I have no idea.!?!
