Car serviced yesterday by AM dealer, on inspection report it stated a damaged O/S/F alloy only minor as the black paint was chipped off.

I meticulously cleaned the car the day before and went over all of the alloys there was no damage, called the dealer who refused to accept it was their fault.

Luckily for me the onboard camera was continually recording on the day and you can see the technician checking the torque of the O/S/F wheel with a torque wrench and you can hear on the third bolt the torque wrench slipping.

The camera records an impact and the technician carries on to torque up a total of six bolts on the wheel when there are only five.

I am now in discussion with the dealer after stating that I have it on video, let's see what happens next.

Bloody hell. So now we have to take pictures of all four wheels as well as all around the car.

Denying it also how bad is that. hope you get this resolved.

In my experience main dealers are the worse. Though some better than others.
My latest acquistion is coming from an independant and experience so far is very good.

I agree, should have known better.

This dealer is local to me at the previous service they notified me that one of the under tray bolts was loose but they did not tighten up.

It needed a helicoil as the thread was knackered sorted it myself even though it was under warranty.

Now I have a wheel that requires a respray, off to the dealer this morning to drop off a USB stick with the video showing the technician torquing the wheel six times when there are only five nuts and the camera recorded this as an impact so I know the torque wrench hit the wheel luckily not the bodywork.

If the dealer does not sort I may publish the video but not yet until an outcome is resolved.

David as soon as the Timeless warranty expires I too will be using non AM dealers.

Not particularly unusual in itself, normal to check the first bolt again after the wheel (or whatever part) is now fully seated.
Shame about the wheel, and frustrating that they didn't admit to it up front.

Presume you didn't get the dealer to do a condition check on the car at the time you brought it in?

For the past few years I have always done a quick phone video around the car when dropping it off paying attention to wheels and bumper edges following Land Rover damaging our car a couple of years back.

How did you go with the dealer. It would be interesting to know what happened.

Am I right to recall the handbook says, first torque the wheel bolts to X, then further tighten each bolt to Y?
If so, your camera should have captured the torque wrench clicking 10 times in total, not 6.

Therefore the score might now be::- SHIFTY 2 : Main Dealer 0.

Thats a poor situation to be in. Hopefully for the cost of a wheel refurb vs losing a customer, they will sort it out no hassle.

When AM Notts pick my car up they take pics all round and point out any obvious wheel damage or other marks before they take the car.

No gripes with the service at all the onboard camera caught most of it even greasing the bonnet latch and door hinge pins.

Wheels nuts had not been removed the technician was just torquing the bolts to make sure that they were at the required torque when the wrench slipped chipping the paint on the wheel, just an accident.

Dropped the video to them on Saturday but no communication to date, still waiting.

When I used a main dealer for servicing, I think they always repainted the silver part of the hub etc. and cleaned the inside faces of the road wheels.

If wheels are no longer removed, have standards slipped ?

Jon

I do remember a dealer in Cheltenham who used to repaint the hubs on my Vantage at every service.

Not sure I would want an AM technician getting any paint near to the ceramic discs on the Vanquish though.
