Torque settings for rear handbrake caliper bolts - V12VS
Discussion
Hmmm thanks Paul - you've just reminded me that I have a V12 Vantage workshop manual!
That said it doesn't have the torque settings for the 2 bolts I am referring to.
It does however say 15nm for the two bolts that hold the calliper to the rear knuckle, but I am meaning the two bolts that hold the two halves of the calliper itself together.
See pic below

If there are some numbers on the heads of the bolts, you can check those and the size of the bolt against a table that will be in your workshop manual somewhere, and that will give you the torque figures you need.
Are your sure? Doesn't it also depend what the substrate is that the bolt is screwed into?MichaelV8V said:

Thanks - Im struggling to read the numbers on the bolts due to rustiness and I cant find that table anywhere in the manual anyway!LTP said:

Yes, I'm sure, it's what my V8V manual says. There is a lot more engineering involved in these cars than there was last time I did any serious spannering. If Aston engineers have chosen a particularly strong and expensive steel, they won't use for a bolt that is going into a weak component, they would use a weaker, cheaper steel for that, so it all makes sense. In the V8V workshop manual, in the Appendix and Glossary section, there is a table titled 'General Torque Figures', here's a screen snip. The figures for the V12 should be the same. If you are struggling to decipher the numbers on the bolt head, I usually take a few pics with my phone and zoom in until I find numbers that match one of the column headings.

As per the title really - does anyone know the torque setting for the rear handbrake caliper Torx bolts?
Mine are showing signs of a bit of rust, so thinking of taking them out to deal with the rust and refitting.
V12VS with Carbon Ceramics, if that makes any difference at all?
Ta
As a separate and more expensive option, have a look on ScuderiaParts, I've bought individual bolts from them, if you need to replace bolts anyway, buying new ones with clear numbers on them might simplify the whole job? But don't blame me if the new ones don't have numbers Mine are showing signs of a bit of rust, so thinking of taking them out to deal with the rust and refitting.

Adam, i did mine in situ with a very fine paintbrush.
Hi Paul, yes that what I resorted to in the end, given nobody seemed to have anything definitive on the torque settings. It's just a bit fiddly getting down the side of the bolt and I wanted to remove any risk of getting some rust converter on the CCB's. I didnt in the end - was ultra careful.I replaced my handbrake caliper bolts last week with titanium ones from pro bolt with an ali sleeve. I torqued them to 50nm which seemed to be not too far off what the old steel ones were that I removed. You could set them lower I expect but I had popped a bit of anti seize on them after seeing the state of the steel ones so gave them a little extra.
Seemed fine afterwards as they’re only holding the caliper together.

Ohhh, they look nice. I wish I had known to ask to have a look at them today! I feel the OEM ones will just rust again 2-3yrs from now regardless so I would probably want to swap them over to these. Do you have the part number / link please... Seemed fine afterwards as they’re only holding the caliper together.
50Nm sounds more like it. and besides my Torque Wrench doesn't do less than 45Nm anyway!

Cheers

Thanks. When I saw your post earlier I thought doh! They look smarter than the pic.50Nm sounds more like it. and besides my Torque Wrench doesn't do less than 45Nm anyway!

I had the steel ones painted over with black paint by AM Leeds and they didn’t stay good for long.
The part numbers I ordered are no longer available on the pro bolt website so I haven’t got that info.
The parts are aluminium M10 cup washer x4, and M10 (1.5mm)x70mm titanium socket cap bolt x4.
