Tyres - how old is too old ?

I've never been that happy with the grip of my v12 Vantage - I checked the tyres and fronts are from 2014 (!) and rears 2017 . Pirelli PZero .

Time for a change ??

My preference would be to definitely change all four, although I suppose you could get away with just fronts, but then there may be different models of tyres fitted?

Depends how you drive I guess, with a v12 up front I wouldn’t be saving pennies on tyres for when you want to drive hard!

Watch out , I replaced a tyre not so long back through a circle of a dark colour and it was over three years old.

Make sure you quantify the date of manufacturing before you purchase.

This might be your problem - try to view the tread as aesthetically displeasing and to be removed as quickly as possible, by way of converting an over-abundance of torque into heat and smoke.

Or perhaps you meant plenty - if so, see above.

I recently swapped the 2014 18k miles P Zeros on my V12VS to Michelin PS4S. Significantly more grip in the dry or wet after about 500 miles running in.

Haven’t transformed the car like many say though. Treat yourself to four new Michelin, Pirelli or Continentals and you’ll be set.

It’s not the tread depth but they go off

The rubber gets more brittle

The 5yr old ones on my Vantage were full of cracks

I can't comment on exact age its a problem but when I purchased my V12 Vantage I resigned myself to thinking it just wasn't a tractable car and indeed the V8s were so superior in putting there power down. The tyres looked perfect.
I changed the tyres after reading on here and WOW, transformed.
I don't believe it was much to do with tyre make rather than age if rubber.
Can't stress how much of an improvement was made.

Which tyres did you fit ?
Traction is generally fine , just feels a bit "wooden "

My tyres are 2011 so i thought i would treat it to some new rears. I have just ordered a set of PZeros AM8 approved.
Funny though as the old ones look in good shape with no cracks or wear signs at all apart from some tread wear.
