Rented a new Vantage in Dec for £1k a month, brilliant car and have loved it, especially the hot V8 and 500hp - had the older model years ago, loved that to. But, was always very Underwhelming in pure performance terms.

Currently owe £93k on the car, nice spec, colour etc 5500 miles. Been offered £100k dead for it, by a reputable super car dealer.

By my fag packet maths-the car has cost me just over £600 a month for 18 months - for a new Aston in the garage. Finance cleared and £7k back.

Who said HP was a mugs game?

That is a cracking outcome - is that the deal you have done?

I think even my opportunistic cynicism about deals to be had when said cars go back will prove to be misplaced if this post covid boom continues until end of the year as 2nd hand car values have definitely jumped!

I’m never going to drive a new £140k car for 18 months for just over £600!

Just over £88k to pay to keep it in Dec or re finance.

I’ve been advised that AML “gave away” around 150 of these cars at the end of ‘19, meaning that the values may not hold to this and most may just walk away.
Glut of new Vantage-mid winter, coming out of this debacle. I either pay another £6k up until Dec and may have to hand back, or take the £7k now and enjoy the memory….

Nice choice at the moment

Unless you are an ace at the racecourse and the lottery and the roulette table - I would say it’s an easy choice - in the words of David Dickinson - that’s the real deal !

Great motoring but a fair bit of luck in the outcome helped by the supply and demand mismatch as a result of COVID

Quite, I was more than happy with a grand a month for a new Aston - but this is just some information for the others who might be on the same sort of deal.

Interesting, and good result!

I've been slightly tempted, I must admit, as the strong residuals mean that mine is about break even currently so I could get out of it if I wanted.

My biggest problem is I haven't been able to properly enjoy the car yet. I've got the NC500 booked for September and loads of events with Supercar Driver throughout the summer, so sort of want to stay holding onto it whilst I'm in the cheap deal.

I've all but decided I'm going to the dark side of the prancing horse when this goes back, but it seems to make further sense to stay in the deal until December when hopefully prices of F12's are naturally lower, being winter and post covid boom (hopefully). My issue is, the 'supercar' space in my garage needs filling as I'm not quite done yet, so if I was to get out of the Vantage now it would only be for something else!

The very attractive 2019 PCP deals, were principally to release dealer stock, because dealers were not re-ordering Vantages from AML.
Aston Martin has reported a loss on the scheme.

You say you will probably go to another marque. Do you think the scheme will have created much brand loyalty amongst the people who took up those offers?
With the previous generation Aston Martin models, there was considerable repeat buying

but is that still happening ?

I already had/have brand loyalty towards AML. I worked there for 2 years after all, on top of them being my poster cars (I was 9 when the film Die Another Day came out, and the Vanquish 1 instantly became my favourite) and I owned a 4.3 Vantage for a while.

However, I'm not keen on the styling of the new cars (I've said it on here many times) and as much as I have loved my Vantage - despite taking a while and some minor cosmetic improvements to come to terms with the looks - time is well and truly running out for big petrol cars and I want to try other marques. Before I go back to AML, I want to have tried an F12, a GT3 RS and something mid engined. With 10 years until the ban and E10 now coming in this year it's only going to get harder to own these things, and who knows what will happen to taxes and ULEZ zones. I'd be kicking myself for sticking with the Vantage or buying another AM product that I'm not really that keen on just because it's an Aston.

As for others, I really don't know. The deal was so good that it likely attracted people that wouldn't normally have gone for a car of that value. The real cost of the new Vantage is more like £30k deposit and £1500 a month, as is any car at that price point. I don't know how you'd get your head around paying that after paying a grand a month, so I'd guess a repeat customer would be more likely to go for a secondhand model rather than a new factory order if they stayed with the brand?

For anyone that currently owns one of these, I checked on WBAC last night and the value of my car is down to £97k, from £101k a few weeks ago.

Not sure if this is reflecting overall market conditions or supply and demand of these cars specifically, but I would imagine it means that they will be comfortably back below balloon payments by November/December at this rate. The time to get out of these early with no negative equity may be drawing to a close.

I understand being able to drive a £150,000 car (options which happened to be fitted, were thrown in for free) for £1,000 monthly, is quite some bargain, but the arithmetic of PCP seems now to dominate discussion.

Is there a different mindset compared to outright ownership, where any thoughts of parting with a car perhaps only come when boredom sets in ?

How many times in your life do you get the chance to drive a car for two years and almost get paid to do it ?

That i suspect is what is going through a lot of peoples minds….

The irony is that you could probably sell it to wbac and then pick up another one in 4-5 months time for less money!

Coupled with the fact that there is a rumoured facelift around the corner means the values will drop even more…potentially

Buy a used older Aston that has done it's depreciation and it's just the servicing costs.

A guy at work keeps implying I am rich because I drive an Aston and he drives a 1.0 Focus. I don't like to tell him that he's paying more for his Focus than I am for the Aston when total costs divided by time of ownership.

This was my approach with my first AM too. In 2012 I picked up a 2009 V8 Vantage for about 55k with about 22k. 2014 I traded it against a V12 Vantage for 52.5k. I'd added 10,000 miles to it as well.

My numbers were similar to the OP (done more miles - but well under the contractual mileage, only 2-3 'known trips' planned in it etc including the Beauleau trip next week) so tis gone:-(

Think a few owners have done this. Squeeze some £ out of the deal while demand from trade is strong. Found mine and a friends up for sale with a pretty big margin - so hope there is the retail demand out there.

Rumour was the 29 UK dealers each had 10 plus cars on this deal, so, at the moment, it feels the sensible thing to do was bail. But there is a hefty hole in the garage!

There are quite a few Astons going unsold in the trade but this is more to do with the reserve prices being asked which are often 10% over CAP clean. Companies such as WeBuyAnyCar will have immediate access to BCA bidding data will reflect this on their offer.

Sorry to drag this up again, but I have a new bit of info that anyone else with a PCP new Vantage might find interesting.

I have, for the first time, been offered a deal to keep the car that doesn't involve paying another deposit. The monthly payment will continue at a slightly higher rate than what I'm currently paying, however no deposit to stump up to refinance the balloon. It's tempting to take this as the currently settlement/balloon is bang on the WBAC value of the car, although I'm not sure it's tempting enough to keep me in it.

Someone might find the above useful, if you have a 'deal' car and want to keep it I suggest calling your dealer to see what they can offer, it seems the current strong residuals have enabled them to give this revised offer. I think the last time I enquired they wanted £10k in to refinance it.

My impression is that used prices seem to be softening a bit, anyone car to share what the rough balloon was at then end of these deals, as once they start getting under £95k I’m getting interested.
