Aston vantage v8 Boot leak

Hi guys wondered if anyone had any better ideas for fixing this other than the kit that AM charge a fortune for , has anyone got any pics of these strips that supposedly stop the leaking ? Many thanks in advance

To be fair, £133 + vat each is a tad frisky for a bit of V shaped rubber and some sticky backed tape!

I bought some appropriate foam off ebay last year, cost was about £4, plus some 3M double sided tape to do the job. I wouldn't say it is 100% effective, but probably prevents the majority of any water getting in. The alternative is don't get it wet......

Much appreciated guys , isn’t it ridiculous when a company like Aston don’t sort this !! Let alone charge you to sort out a obvious common problem

They did sort it, they were fitted as std on later cars and applied under warranty as retro fit to earlier cars without them... Either yours have come off, or the previous owners didnt see fit to take up the warranty offer at the time.

My point was , shouldn’t have needed sorting at all !
A basic requirement on such a high end car … seems what with the light unit famous water/condensation problem , whole back end isn’t ideal in a uk climate !!

The flip seals cost me about £6.50 each in 2013, which I thought expensive. They work if the tailgate is raised slowly. Now AML are just having a laugh at these prices, but it's easy to fashion an alternative for next to nothing. AML part number is 6G33 25902AA

Can anyone help with pics with where to stick a non AM solution to the tailgate , or if anyone has a pic of the AM flip seal in place , thanks in advance

I'm don't believe those strips will solve all the issues as I have them and after some bad weather I discovered my boot full of water.



I removed the carpets and there was 1-2 cm of water.


With some investigation it seems the water is running down to the side of the rear light and then entering on the top of the pressure equalisation vent. It's only happening on one side and the drip is easily visible.



I think either the rear bumper or the inner wheel liner needs to come off to investigate further.

As a note I've owned this MY2010 car for over 5 years and this problem has only just come to light.

The strips (flip seals) are to prevent water running off the tailgate into the boot when it is opened (not a leak as such). Leaking around poorly sealed rear lamps in heavy rain is another issue

Yes have the usual lamp issue too! Done the usual holes in the unit , dried out , re sealed etc etc …. Some serious design floors in that car have to say when it comes to rain !

^ Exactly this!!! I think two completely different issues are being muddled up. Must admit earlier when I posted I was thinking, hmm, its not really a "leak" that this strips prevent.
