Touchtronic II Teardown
Discussion

The Touchtronic II (ZF 6HP26X) transmission is a joy to work on, largely due to its mechanical simplicity. This particular one is a 1068 020 084 model manufactured between Nov. 2007 & May 2011 for DB9 & DBS. It therefore has the 5-bolt mounting for the final drive adapter plate, the 7 plate E-clutch, the later undulating plate in the C-clutch and, most significantly, the ‘053’ intermediate sheet hydraulic architecture in the Mechatronic unit, which was responsible for a big improvement in shift quality and speed for ‘09MY-onward vehicles. Gorgeous!

The only auto transmission car in my collection is Touchtronic 5 speed in a Mercedes-Benz CLK 320 (W208). It is the later version with the (Touchtronic) left/right gearlever manual selection. Useful to hold any particular gear. With the original model W208, perhaps the alternative manual changing was not possible, so therefore Mercedes might not have called that Touchtronic.
Would my transmission be a ZF product?
Oil repeatedly flows through fan blades, but difficult for me to understand how everything really works. Knowing when to change down for example. Perhaps it is magic.

The only fault has on one occasion been poor gearchanging, when the oil level fell due to an oil seal leak. Soon resolved. Has been perfect for 20 years apart from that. I find the redundant left leg auto driving seems, to encourage a very relaxed driving style.
