2019 = £392
2020 = £344

Those were competitive premiums and included Breakdown Cover.

Renewal now = £834 !!

No mention of a rebate then, for my 200 miles driven last year (lockdown).

Where is avinalarf when he is needed.

Who is worth contacting now ?

Have you tried calling NFU and querying the renewal?

It seems to be the way with a lot of organisations including insurance companies and the AA/RAC. We alternate between AA/RAC each year to get the new customer discount.

I've been with NFU for 30+ years - never had a problem. >£100k's worth of cars covered fully comp, with protected no claims for £430 per year. (Went up by £6 in 2021).

When I phone up, I speak to the same person I did in 1995!

Having never crashed and my postcode has a lot to do with it I guess.

Can not understand why some people say this always happens with NFU. Never had it happen with me. The premiums for my vantage were similar to yours and came down £40 this year. Be good to find out why yours have gone up if you find out post it please.

For me, absolutely nothing changed except the premium. Its happened on more than one car as well.

Funnily enough, I've just had the same experience. I have been paying NFU Mutual c.£500-550 p.a. for my Aston over the last 3 years... but this year the renewal letter drops through the letter box with a circa £1100 price tag - despite nothing changing. I figured this was just their computer algorithm spitting out a number so I called to query, but they said it is what it is. Needless to say, I've gone elsewhere. Pity though - I liked the policy I had with them.

I guess if cover or price is your priority - if cover is priority find your local chubb insurance dealer - great cover, if price is key then i guess a comparison website is your best friend!

Mine went up by £50 for 3 cars. Queried it and got £70 off with my local NFU office.

So far, that is two of us with NFU renewals that have suddenly more than doubled and two others with minimal change.
No point in contacting them. They would never reveal why they want such an enormous increase.

I am a year older, my Vantage is a year older, but nothing else has changed. Have never made a claim on any insurance policy, or had any accidents and to make it even worse, only drove my Aston Martin 200 miles last year. They were onto a real money spinner during the lockdowns.

Maybe they imagine I am happy to contribute towards all their stolen farm machinery claims.

What? We were insured with NFU so not from a comparison site and a well-respected insurer comparable with Chub. Are you implying we should have just paid the double amount premium?

I too have suffered from a massive increase in premium by nfu for my multi-car policy and my mail to them informing of my imminent transfer of my insurance to a. n. other. was accepted without comment.
The increase applied to my Vantage was more than 30%.
My business policies become due in a month or so and after more than 20 years with them it is obviously time to consider a change,

My premium with NFU is up for renewal in November and it will be intersting to see how much they want. I contacted them midway through the premium this year to find out the additional cost if I had modifications carried out and they told me it would add £20, which I thought was acceptable. After I had the work done and notified them, the additional cost for just the six months left on the policy was £70, meaning at renewal the modifications would add £140 t renewal to whatever the new premium was going to be.

I did complain, formally, and they honoured the original £20 increase. If they do indeed bump up the premium, I will complain again and if the price is not reasonable I will go elsewhere.

Hello all, OP here again with the topic conclusion.

2019 = £392 ... with NFU.
2020 = £344 ... with NFU.

With my usual winter storage, then followed by the pandemic, I only drove 200 miles during 2020.
Therefore NFU had 'money for nothing' that year.
I would have been happy now with a renewal of about £350, but their reward to me for carrying almost no risk last year was;

2021 NFU Renewal premium = £834 !!!!

Happy result now though;

2021 = £248 ... with Aviva.

( Prot NCB; guarantee no premium increase next year; own choice of repairer; £250 excess. )

I'm with Sheila's Wheels this year £330 but time for renewal they put it up £1.

Went looking around and though I'm only 53 with huge NCB, I have a price of £248 with Saga of all insurers, upto 6k miles/year, protected NCB, windscreen cover, courtesy car ...yada yada.

I've got a month to renewal so will keep an eye on things.

If you find a very reasonable quote with a reputable insurer it wont last long.

Because more Aston owners will insure with them and push the price up.

Only if that insurer has under priced the risk.

If they have say 5,000 Astons insured and if that happens to be enough policies to properly establish the long-term average level of risk, increasing the number of Aston Martin customers should not change the risk average and therefore premiums. However, if those new policyholders are involved in more crashes/thefts than had previously been the norm for that insurer, then obviously the previous level of assumed risk has changed.

In this topics NFU example, perhaps that insurer does not insure enough Aston Martins to correctly establish the genuine average risk for those cars/drivers. Possibly they suddenly received more claims than their risk level anticipated, became unnerved and decided to remove those risks from their books. The best way to do that within 12 months, a huge increase in premiums.

A little off topic but Aston’s do seem cheap to insure. I had my 4.3 when I was 22 and that was only £750 or so for the year, my brother was also only 22 when he had his new vantage and insurance was around £1400, I’d say that was a bargain for a £150k car and someone so young! I’ve tended to have a broker multicar policy with extras like driving other cars fully comp through the likes of Pace Ward.

Although putting my girlfriend on the insurance meant going to the sea captain (shudder) as she has no prior experience of performance cars, so when it’s time to renew next month I’m hoping to get back in with a decent broker.

Range rovers on the other hand…I’m having a hard time finding a company that will cover it at all this year, probably due to all the thefts.

I think this is probably true and likely comes down to two factors.

I think most owners probably cherish them even more than other cars of similar value and look after them to the extent that they are less likely to be damaged. Maybe they crash them less but I would have thought they certainly park them more carefully in safer places etc etc.

Secondly, I would have thought they are much harder to move on if they are stolen. Not many around. Many with almost unique specification combinations etc.. So much easier to steal and move on a Range Rover, for example.

If NFU pull the same trick with me in a month's time looks like I might be heading back to Aviva too.
