Sticking ECU/Ignition

My ECU/key would regularly get stuck when pushing in and fail to return back to switch off the car. Would need several pushes in various angles to finally get it out.
Mike at BR's story about the customer's stuck key not returning flush causing a repeated clutch learn worried me so had to figure this one out and fix it before I ruined my recently upgraded clutch (will post on this separately).
Thankfully I have the MY2012+ Vantage where the ski slope is cast aluminium and therefore harder to snap (or so I told myself to psych myself up for the task).
Removing it was tricky, needed to open the nav in order to grip something in the void space before my plastic wedge tools could have a space to squeeze in to along the edges. The 4 clips snapped open fairly easy. 7 electrical plugs to undo as well as the 2x cross head screws for the restraints.
Ignition socket part was easy to undo once the ski slope was off. Could see areas the factory white greese had dried out so fairly easy to know where to apply with a cotton bud.
Put everything back, key pops back perfectly every time now!

apparently aston became so enamored/emotional of and over their emotional control unit that they forget to test it. this is not the first i've heard of such a problem.
serves them right for having the lack of foresight and discipline to refrain from developing and implementing gimmicks dreamed up by their advertising department. how quickly they forgot, when money was to be had, how many 8-tracks, cassettes, floppy discs and CDs have been eaten up by similar devices that involved inserting and automatically ejecting something over the past half-century.

On a side note, what's that black cable that looks like and iPod connector? GPS?
Its the display connector for the nav screen I believe. On this model it comes off with the ski slope as one piece, so needs to be unplugged as you lift it off. Looks a bit like the iPod connector in the arm rest. On a side note, what's that black cable that looks like and iPod connector? GPS?
