I think the answer is “It depends”. I’m a member, initially through insurance via Lockton, then I renewed this year and added my wife. For a variety of reasons we’ve only been to one event, which was fine. I’m really considering whether to renew next year.What’s the general Consensus Gents ?
The technical forums are virtually essential for owners of pre-Gaydon models and the club apparently has a set of specialist tools for some of these, but for the VH cars (like yours and mine) the expertise offered on here is better. I’m not into racing, nor into Concours (the idea of cleaning my bonnet hinges with a toothbrush, or being marked down because the recess of one of my grille mounting screws has a touch of rust, leaves me cold). I’m not really a clubbable person (the Groucho Marx quote definitely applies) but I have seen through the AMOC forums and various private messages that the management committee of AMOC (CoM) is a seething nest of vipers, with factions, back-stabbing, court cases, a tenuous grasp of reality, nodding acquaintanceship with the truth and other shenanigans that, in my opinion at least, taint all of the members as we collectively elected these bozos. Some post on here. All my opinion, of course.
Some people enjoy the local meets and have apparently made new and life-long friends, often ignoring the machinations of the red trouser brigade on the CoM. AMOC is split into regions and I think a lot depends on how good and active your local rep is.
I’m sure other opinions are available. Having said all of that, I’d also rather have root canal work than join Facebook.

Pretty sure you dont need to join AMOC to take a Locktons policy? Ive not been an AMOC member for years.... In fact only for 1 year only then I decided not to renew.
I also go along to all the AMOC meetings, and am welcomed every time. Mild chats about if I would like to join, but never any pressure or made to feel unwelcome if I dont. Friendly bunch, just for me the mags are of limited interest, being classics focussed, its the social side I value the most, which seemingly donest need the membership really.
Give Locktons a call and see what they have to say on the matter....
The AMOC forum used to be OK, but they changed it and it was a calamity, and ever since its not really recovered to its former state and level of posting. Again not sure if you need a membership to join. Perhaps my membership of the forum lingers from when I was once a paid up member? Can't remember if Im honest...

This forum really came alive following the 21st November 2017. That was Marmite day and pages of split opinions were articulated.
Many AM Phers left after that.
Between announcements from AML, there is not so much for us to discuss.
On the TVR forum they have a topic (now well into the second volume) about the attempted company revival and the new car which was launched 4 years ago. Very little has happened since then about making any customer cars (TVR did not even build the single launch car themselves), but the forum presses on every day. Without any news, the TVR PHers have taken to writing about gardening. Hilarious.

No, it’s the other way around. If you take a first Aston Martin policy with Locktons, as they are the official AMOC insurer you get a one-year, single-member AMOC membership thrown in. If you renew with Locktons you don’t get another year’s AMOC. You obviously don’t have to take them up on the free offer.I’ve no idea what happens if you’ve already had a Locktons policy with another marque and buy an Aston

Yes, that is my experience too.
Previously thought AMOC was mainly classic AM owners, but when I joined (before the pandemic) and then attended some social meets, most of the cars present had been built at Gaydon. Possibly it varies between different areas, I don't know.
I joined the AMOC about ten years ago, same time I came on here. Both forums where very busy then and I had some great drives out with the AM pistonheads crowd. At the time AMOC started having forum problems after changing to some very questionable software, many of the old AM Piston heads guys moved to Mclarens and things everywhere changed.
I would say that the AMOC forum is as busy if not busier than PH at the moment. This year I had a great couple of days driving around North Wales with guys from the AMOC forum who are also planning a trip to next years Monza GP via the Alps.
I also find the AMOC forum is the place to be for technical expertise.
Nothing stays the same, but that's where I am at the moment.

- I'm not a member but our local cinema had the bar area and private screen reserved for AMoC for the Bond film Thursday evening, so can't be all bad!! Annoyed I didn't get in the underground car park (too big a q by time we got there) as there was probably a good AM display as a result...

You have that well worked out Adam. Sounds ideal.
Join for just one year, then continue going to all the AMOC meetings and use the members forum.
A great way to save on membership fees.
