DB11 AMR advice
Discussion
Looking for advice on DB11s from any owners as there seems to be little on them in the forums.
Thinking of pulling the trigger on a 2019 DB11 AMR. Currently have a db9.2 and considered the vanquish, but having test driven the vanquish and db11 back to back, the extra space of the 11 really appealed and this is for a daily driver.
Few questions:
1. Do people think there’s is a significant upgrade from the standard Db11 (v12) to the AMR that is worth the premium?
2. Are there any options people think are essential. A few elsewhere have mentioned the stereo upgrade and/or tech pack people as a nice to have? Again there doesn’t seem to be much written on this.
3. Any common pitfalls to look for when examining the car?

I was in the same position as you re cars. I very nearly bought a db11 amr last year. The same 68 plate car is now on with Works for £12k more than I could have bought it for 12 months ago. Dumb. It’s filed somewhere in the same folder as the z8 I turned down in 2000. Dumber.Thinking of pulling the trigger on a 2019 DB11 AMR. 1 - tough one. I’d say yes due to the low production numbers.
2 - trim choice seemed to be the main thing, all down to personal taste, extra options are nice but not deal breaking for me.
3 - nothing I’ve read about, just the usual check for damage under the splitter as the nose is long.
I really liked it, very refined compared to the 9. Which one are you going for?

in general, i think special additions of standard models are not worth the extra price premium. astons IMO are not an exception. i find it difficult to believe that a standard aston martin db11 is not luxurious and powerful enough as is.
The AMR DB11 was not a "special edition", its a proper top of the range model in its own right.M1AGM said:

Ive been offered one privately at c.120K with a very similar spec to the works one (which looks a great car but a bit overpriced, but what do I know in the current market) but in xenon grey. seem to be very few on the market which is both a plus and a minus. Think the only reticence on pulling the trigger is the premium of a standard v12 vs the AMR and whether it is worthwhile. Hard to get a sense on how different they are on a short test drive.1 - tough one. I’d say yes due to the low production numbers.

p.s your folder with the z8 in it could be joined with turning down a sub £85K manual 575….

I feel better already, thanks.
I know what you mean about the difference between the standard and the AMR. I had a couple of short test rides in both too. Performance wise I noticed the steering felt a bit sharper in the AMR and the car didn't roll as much in corners, but we are talking small differences, could've been the new tyres, but AM have worked on the suspension settings in the AMR to tighten things up so that must have played its part. The power, the AMR felt like it revved a little quicker, but again nothing that I would notice day to day driving. It's a tough call really, the man maths must say that the residual will always be stronger on the AMR hence the price difference justification.

Th difference in power between the two models is just an engine mapping change which a dealer can do for you for a few £k so not worth much. I doubt it makes any difference in the real world - just more Power at higher revs but I gather it improves the sound which is more worthwhile (I suspect they just made the change to match the Bentley Continental GT numbers). You can’t retrofit the suspension changes as far as I know - I haven’t driven one myself but all the feedback from those who have is the difference is small but noticeable.
I think of extras the B&O is the main one that makes a difference. Most of the others are personal preference.

I bought a xenon grey AMR a few months ago
Swapped it for Pearl white a few weeks later
Didn’t like the colour. In the summer it just seemed dull.
Homelink is useful if you have gates. The BO sound upgrade isn’t worth having in my opinion. Sound quality is negligible improvement. In fact I go as far as to say my new defender speakers are better than my AMR.
The DBS super leg is my next car. It won’t be grey or black
I’ve sold all of my grey or black cars. Black is the worst colour to show any car design.

The DB11 is an awesome GT, Aston ensured a quantum leap forward in terms of functional technology and performance. The twin turbo V12 is a monster - effortlessly ballistic in any gear at any speed just flex your right foot and it flies. The ride comfort is also superb for such a high performance car.
The interior layout doesn’t feel quite as special as the 9’s and on the option front it’s well worth seeking out upgraded leather, stitching and two tone finishes with tasteful trim and embroidery upgrades. This ensures the inside looks and feels as good as the stunning exterior. I would also want the B&O, set up correctly it’s fabulous, the base system is not good enough. Exterior finishes are also important as the 11 is much more tuneable, ie Magnetic silver, diamond turned wheels, bright grille and bonnet mesh/blades for a classic look, or something like Lunar White with a full black pack/wheels for a completely different more contemporary look.
The standard V12 struggles to put full power down so the additional 30 horses from the AMR aren’t a big benefit, the main upgrade was to the suspension, lessons learnt on the V8 were transferred to the V12 11’s and AMR cars offer more cohesive handling and more sporting dynamics, pre-AMR cars have a bit more float and are slightly more detached from the action, although ride comfort is a little better. Only by degrees, so personally I would be happy with any 11, the earlier CEO editions are now offering great value with a nice spec’ including B&O.

I was lucky enough to have a DB11AMR for a weekend courtesy of our local dealer
I have '17 V12 Vantage S.
I like to drive the car fast and feel how it grips and handles - it's a high performance sports car after all.
The AMR has all the power you can use, it handles astonishingly well for a large car and sits flat through corners and reassures you with its progpdigous grip, pointy steering and power delivery. The handling is superb. It has no right to be that good.
It's dynamics are more sophisticated than the Vantage, it can be taken through corners faster and still feels composed. It's a generation ahead of what are great handling VH platform cars.
If you drive like me, then buy it
You won't be disappointed
If you want a fast GT car the standard DB11 will be more than adequate

I am in the same thought process at the moment, but one additional factor for me is exhaust noise.
I was wondering does the AMR produce the cracks and pops on overrun that I didn’t experience in my v12 test drive? I drove a V8 and got abit of that going on!
As others have mentioned, I know there is a power upgrade for the standard v12, but I wonder does that software map also crispen up the exhaust note and bring the overrun noise into it.
PS - I know the overrun noise isn’t for everyone 😊, but any help or first hand experience is greatly appreciated.

Yes the AMR does in sport and sport + modes. I was wondering does the AMR produce the cracks and pops on overrun that I didn’t experience in my v12 test drive? I drove a V8 and got abit of that going on!

Note that the 2022 DB11 V12 has gone back to original DB11 suspension hardware but retained the different maps of the AMR. To have pretty much the exact same spec as the 2022 and on DB11 V12, just buy any 2016-2018 car and flash the AMR maps at any dealer for £1200.
The AMR maps firm up the damper settings, add the pantomime pops and crackles, and add 30hp between 6000 and 6500 rpm by hanging onto the 700Nm of torque until 6500rpm rather than allowing it to tail off above 6000. If you extend the engine to the redline you will see the difference.
To me this is an absolute result for all the owners or potential purchasers of an earlier V12.
