Discussion
This is a new subject to me so hopefully I can get some useful guidance here.
My current insurers are offering by far the lowest quote for the forthcoming DB9, but require a tracker to cover theft. This can be category 5, 6 or 7, and any of the 'S' variants, and they say it must be on a subscription because that's how they know it's active.
I have a fitter lined up, but no idea what category or make of tracker to buy. I want to ensure it will give me theft cover, but equally want to keep the cost down as much as possible. Any recommendations would be very useful. Ta!

Are you sure your DB9 doesn't already have one fitted?
I'm pretty sure all Astons have had factory-fitted trackers for quite a few years, although you don't tell us how old your new pride and joy is. Some of the early types were known to be problematic as they started to fail; I have a 2015 car that has a Vodafone CobraTrak system fitted and both it and the system works fine.
I have no experience with 3rd party trackers, but I'm sure other owners on here have.

There are several, perhaps many insurers, who do not insist on an active tracker with subscription. Wonder whether your present insurer also insists on their favoured repairers too. Not sonething you want for an Aston Martin.
Tracker subscriptions are not cheap.
Insurance premiums discussed on here recently, seem to be lower than ever. Two examples are Aviva (use their own website) and Saga, in mid and even low £200s. Obviously vary according to personal circumstances. Don't bother with NFU, they were very competitive, but don't want Aston Martins now.
Your DB9 is very likely to have a factory fitted tracker. However, as these devices become older, all begin to fail causing electrical gremlins. Many owners take action before the gremlins occur.

It does, but it's a 2007 car; I asked the dealer if the tracker/subscription was live and he said no. If there's no tracker paperwork with the car is there any way I can revive the subscription or is it dead/obsolete?Jon39 said:

Aviva and NFU quoted me about £600 back in January (for a 54 plate model) model but now suddenly want £1,100 and £1,700 respectively. My details are the same so no idea why. Just checked Saga and they want £3,302.40 which is simply comical.Tracker subscriptions are not cheap.

I'd prefer not to need a tracker, but Direct Line stipulate it and their quote is about £650.
I do about 8K miles a year so don't qualify for any 'classic' policy, unfortunately. Running out of options!
I went with Performance Direct this year and they shipped me a tracker included with the policy. Its a simple one time tracker that is activated if stolen. Policy was nearly the cheapest too £320 ish
My factory installed tracker is 2012 technology and hasnt been activated in last 6 years that Ive owned the car.

Yes, I got mine reinstated. Dead easy.
All you need is the registration of the car when it was last active.
Call this number. Have a chat with them and they will do the rest. Think I had to send a photo of my v5 form.

Think the company is teletrack /navman
Mine is a 2009 car.

Yes, I did say NFU are raising premiums enormously, to presumably get Aston Martins (maybe all sports cars) off their books.
The premiums I mentioned were for lower mileages than you do, so perhaps that might explain the difference.
Possibly also other aspects, which insurers consider present an increased risk.
Where we live of course can make a big difference.

That would certainly save some faff if they can do it.bogie said:
yes thats it. They included the tracker where its necessary, I was really surprised, just a small self install jobbie you hide somewhere in the car and register online. I believe it only works for as long as you are insured with them.
Sadly their best price was about £850 with Hiscox.Let's see what Teletrack Navman can do!
NFU have been doing my insurance forever, suddenly my Vantage which was £400 they wanted £1,200 for. Nothing changed except it got a year older.
Much complaining and a reminder of the house insurance and 8 other cars they insure got it back down to £650 again.
But I will now go to the effort of shopping around for all the cars now and the house, no idea why they suddenly don't want my business anymore.

It's now 'Trackstar Stolen Vehicle Tracking'. I gave them them the end of the VIN; they said it might be possible to get the SIM unbarred, and to call back in 48 hours. Fingers crossed! All you need is the registration of the car when it was last active.

try Manninguk for insurance... ive been with them 3 years now on my V12V. You can choose your own repairer don't need a tracker and you can add agreed valuation and mileages etc
We have a winner
£606 and no tracker needed. My kinda people. And I can bail out of my current policy for just £11.
Thanks Morty, please go to the virtual bar and have a beer on me!

Spent over 45 mins on the phone with NFU had many performance cars beforehand including 2 AM Vantages asked if the house had security cameras which it has quote was £2,200, Aviva was £380 took less than 3 mins maybe NFU should stick with tractors.
Took NFU over a day to come back to me with a quote which was double my previous years premiums.Got the distinct impression when giving them my details they weren’t really interested.
