Frazer tickford metro

Was just reading about the upcoming auction of above car, i had forgotten that AM had been involved in this. I guess the Cygnet was not their first roll of the small luxury car dice.

I suspect, as it was a Tickford project that any AML involvement, outside actually owning Tickford, would be very limited to none. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-1...
Back in the day Tickford provided consultancy to anyone willing to pay and most of the time their involvement would be kept entirely secret, as is normal for automotive engineering contractors. AML would have been deliberately at "arm's length" from any Tickford business to avoid other potential clients amongst the major OEMs being put off at the thought of their designs being overseen by Aston Martin

Even I laugh at that.
What a prospect 45k … I do wonder what 80bhp would feel like in a metro, but all the carp on it must add weight.
About 13 bhp less than an MG Metro Turbo, apparently, according to this:What a prospect 45k … I do wonder what 80bhp would feel like in a metro, but all the carp on it must add weight.

I can't remember ever seen such or heard about it, maybe long time ago seen it in some car magazine, but because those are rare, they mostly not often mentioned, so soon forgotten?
Its rare, but would you want such in your collection?
on the other hand, if money and space/garage are no problem, could be fun to collect a series of strange rare cars not many have on their bucket list.
so a big rare collection of rare cars :-) so this one and that other more recent one of them and their are a few others, the rare but Hot Hatch collection... the one that Beck made also fits in, forgot the name of that small one, also rare, ah, Beck Shogun.

Tonker, was it part of a ‘fleet’ back in 1992? It seems like quite a niche choice sat here in 2021.
However, I think that view might be tempered with 2021 vision because they are such a rare thing now whereas they used to be everywhere… and when I had the magnificent 40 bhp ish of the 1.0 city, my neighbour had a black metro with a sporty body kit. It might even have had the 1.3 engine … and tried to look a little like the tickford.
I can’t recall how much Aston charged for a cygnet new, but I wonder if the metro was actually more expensive, when price adjusted.

Great story and what are the chances of finding someone on here that owned such a rare car?Have to admit it's not for me, even when new the Metro didn't do anything for me despite my mum running one with an auto gearbox. However, love the story behind this car.

For some reason I find cars/engineering projects like this fascinating.
Anyway one just popped up on car and classic and I thought of this thread......
