2006 DB9: Wrap or Repaint and Apply Paint Protection?

I just purchased a 2006 DB9 Volante with 43,000 miles. I purchased it form a private party who had all the service records from the AM dealership.

The exterior of the car has some expected chipping and I am considering either getting the car repainted or having it wrapped in black-- which is it's factory color. Any thoughts on a wrap vs. repaint? If I get the car painted I am considering purchasing a full film protection for the vehicle and having it ceramic coated. Any advise?

I love driving this vehicle. It is the first AM and V12 I have owned. My former cars include a Maserati QP, Mercedes SL 450, SL 550 and BMW 740il. I believe the DB( is a cut above all of these vehicles. I intend to us it as a daily driver and keep it well maintained. MY black lab, Zeus, love riding shot gun especially with the top down. For Zeus, it beats being exiled to the far back of my wife's Subaru Outback, which was specifically purchased for the dog.

Congratulations on the purchase,

I had my 2006 Vantage wrapped a few years ago. Its a daily driver too and gets a lot of use.

Pro's

Cost - should be a lot less than a high quality respray.

Reversible - When you want it can come off.

Protection - Offers a degree of protection from chipping plus you can overlay clear PPF in the high wear areas

Durability - Wont last as long as a full respray but I'm on year 4 now and still looks like new. Plus you can carefully polish out scratches

Cons

Looks like a wrap. Not in itself a bad thing just won't look the same as a top end paint job

Durability - If you are going gloss black I'd be a bit concerned, it will show every mark & harder to detail than paint.

If you have chips pre the wrap, you will have wrapped chips post the treatment.

In summary no right or wrong way to go just considerations.

My car is meteorite silver
I went to get it ppf'd and the guy said the same about the chips, so
I had the car resprayed on the front end, It was then detailed and PPF instead of a wrap, it looks great and keeps the paint work like new.
Costs about the same for a freshen up and ppf to the heavy targeted areas than a complete wrap

I've seen wraps, they just look cheap up close

You now have companies doing the ppf with colour So you are getting the best of both worlds

If you are thinking of wrapping you will need to touch up the chips as they will be visible in the wrap as the surface needs to be perfect. If you get them professionally touched up why not just get PPF paint protection film it is better than a wrap, protects the car better and is more durable.

Definitely go for the paint rather than the wrap. I feel all wraps I have seen just do not have the finish or gloss of a pro paint job and hopefully it's not the whole car that needs doing. You can then add PPF if you wish but again, I think it shows and reduces the gloss.

I personally would rather have the front repainted properly every few years rather than reduce the finish.
