What is it with dealers??

Being sad like I am, I generally keep an eye on what’s for sale in the U.K. from various manufactures not just Aston. But has anyone else noticed how lazy ads are?

Not a single one of these listed as an N420, is actually an N420. The spec isn’t even close For example, a quick browse on auto trader finds;

The Aston Martin 'Pre-owned' listing used to show much greater detail, eg. Standard features and separately Option features.

When it was revamped (improved?) the information became very brief, as if it was some kind of automated process for the model, but not the actual car.

Perhaps the focus group discussing the improved software, thought it would encourage potential customers to contact the dealer to ask questions.
It might have the opposite effect though for people with busy lives (would that include most Aston Martin buyers?).

I think that a lot of the dealers think that as the car has 420BHP it must be an N420?, which as we know not all of the time.

I very much doubt it....

The explanation is more likely that N420 is th default at the top of the list of model options to choose from when listing the car and some people cant be bothered to select the right one instead. We saw all the time in IT, users just cant be bothered to select the right options, especially when at the end of the day it probably makes very little difference to selling the car anyway. The N420 was basically just a pre-set trim package, so I doubt it changes the used value one way or the other really.

On a side note, a little interesting (well to me anyway) N420 stat for you. Of the four V8 Vantages that were sold in Kermit Green (none of which were in the UK as far as I know) 3 of them had the grey lipstick pack and one didn't.

They are the only four other Gaydon era Vantages in Kermit Green, besides mine and obviously all were V8's being N420's, making mine the only V12 ever made.

That’s some cool info to have. Working in IT myself I know what you mean regarding users … lol. I guess you can say the same about the N430 as well, infact many special editions on that note.


Speaking to someone from heritage, I think mine may be one of the only manual, coupe, n420’s in lightning silver in the U.K. atleast. There’s not a huge amount of them about anyway.

Tim Cottingham is the man you need to speak with. You can find him on the various Aston Facebook groups as he posts reasonably often there. He is very helpful in such regard.

If it is the only manual in a certain colour / spec they will produce you a "one of one" certificate for a small fee, if that kind of thing floats yer boat.

Thanks. It was rob I was talking to. I’ll give Tim a nudge. I know 67 coupe N420’s ended up in the U.K. not a lot really when you think about it. I’d guess the majority in sport shift as well.

They should do what other companies do with addresses and post codes - Enter the post code and the system looks up your address for you but you can amend it if anything looks wrong.

So in this example you can enter your car reg. and the system will tell you exactly what the car is make model trim etc.

If auto trader and PH linked up with https://www.rapidcarcheck.co.uk/

then it would make adverts clearer.

Hahaha, thats a pretty rubbish website, just put both my car registrations in and both say there is a problem with the MOT.....No there isnt. Plus it didnt say what the cars were.

Worked with all my cars past and present. And seems a lot more detailed that most sites without paying.

Anyway it's more the principal if the car-selling website can link in with the (presumably) DVLA data then it would be a good starting point and the seller can amend or update anything that is missing or incorrect.
