Another broken clip!

This is getting to be a joke.

Readers may remember that my DB9 had a broken clip on the top of a coilpack.

Another broken clip has just been found, evidently visually OK when the first clip was replaced.

I'm putting feelers out because I'd like the car back before Christmas, but if anyone here knows of anyone who has a spare clip for a 2007 DB9 (3 wire version), money awaits...

(all the connector companies mentioned in the last thread were contacted to no avail, so I need someone with an old loom to cannbalise)

Glad you got it sorted. It is annoying when you buy a premium car and find they have used materials that get brittle with heat.

I take it the clip just stops the connector from popping off? My friend is an Aston Martin electrician (old stuff mainly) and he just puts a dob of silicon on the bottom where the retaining lug is, so you cannot see it. Might be worth considering as likely to happen again.

It doesn't pop off, but the connection seems to be poorer.

The bodge, as opposed to a new wiring loom at £4K + VAT + fitting, is cable ties. We thought we'd do it properly this time, but if another one goes, cable ties it will be!

I can only assume this is an Aston 'thing' after 14 years so I'm surprised they're not more easily available. That's twice I've had to pay £72 for a £3 connector. But after a while you get into the mindset that anything under £1K is a bargain.

I'm learning rather more about the 6.0 V12 than I'd bargained for...

I spent many an evening pouring over connector catalogs looking for the 3 pin DB9 connector. Probably blew 20 hours and even bought a couple that I thought might be the right one (to no avail).

My solution (don't tell my neighbors) is two zip ties. One zip tie makes a loop to the connector, the other goes through that loop to the coil pack. Not elegant, but it works.

Haha… please share where you sourced it. I busted 3 when I did my coil packs and spark plugs. I ended up using high heat tape and taping the plug to the coil pack

MIke at BR kindly sent me this eBay link, though I needed the part yesterday (literally!) so stumped up £72 for the authentic one.

It looks different to me but maybe the connecting part is the same. Worth a punt though for next time.

Both clips came from Stratton; apparently they bought the last two available. I don't know where they got them from, maybe the factory?

These won't be a specially made item for the DB9. Might be worth contacting the eBy seller and sending him your broken bits. He sells coil packs, connectors etc so hopefully can identify the connector.

Good idea, I 'll see if the bits are still extant. Even if I don't need any more, I can buy loads and resell them for £72 each

Are they 2 pin coil packs?
If so they are the same coil packs fitted to the jaguar s type v6
Also fitted to a few other vehicles, but I search for the Jag Coil packs when it's time to replace.
Something to think about?

It makes you wonder though if any Jaguar uses the 3-pin version...

Simpo any chance you can put some more pictures of the connector from different angles as I think the one Mike has put up may well do the job.

For £7.99 I've ordered one anyway. I have the old ones here for comparison. If it's the same then I'll be a bit peeved at being charged £72 each for the other ones!
