It's a stereotype. Certain sorts of English, wealthy, landed, upper-class twits (and their imitators) have a tendency to wear loud trousers, often red or pink in colour. I have no idea if the practice originated amongst the officers of certain senior army regiments, but it does seems logical

Probably because of the PH word filter taking out the swear word. Copy the URL, paste it into a browser, edit it to put the 'u' and 'c', and maybe the 'k' back into the obscenity in the middle of the URL (no spaces), hit "Enter" and you should be there.

Funny though, we don't have anything similar in Italy. At least not a single piece of clothing/accessory/whatever that is universally perceived as being for tts for decades on end. I am sure there have been trends but they are also gone and forgotten.

For instance, when I was kid, in my entourage (read: mainly my family) Mercedes were seen has butchers' cars, go figure. Alfas for cigarettes smugglers.
