2nd gen Vanquish- battery tender

Anyone have any advice on the best type of tender used for the above also where is the best and easiest place to wire one in

I use a CTEK charger and attach it to one of their extensions that I’ve connected directly to the 12v battery under the rear seat. I’ve routed the extension through the boot and out the back of the boot lid. That way, I don’t have to be concerned with loose connections and always have a direct connection to the battery.

I used to connect charger to the outlet in the boot until one day i forgot to disconnect when leaving the garage the cable snaps quite easily.

Now drop the drivers window down about half inch and connect to outlet in front of console.

Love the Aston branded charger , even discounted down to £235 is a joke. Its a rebranded optimate charger as I already have 2 for my motorbikes 1 for traditional lead acid & canbus ready and another for lithium battery. I don't think I paid more than £60 for either.

Thanks for the tips on where to connect I shall have a good rummage in the boot and see what could work

Have a look at the ccharger web site and you'll see a magnetic connector adapter for CTEK and if you then look on eBay you'll also find the other half of the socket.

It should be possible to mount this adjacent to the number plate light. Then your connection is entirely outside the vehicle and if you forget to unplug as you drive away it just pulls off. This is the standard system on the newer cars.

This is all you need. Plugs into the 12V in the boot. Job done.

Cheers guys I think a Std ctek will be rhe way forward can't see me driving off and forgetting as I'm quite used to having my bikes on chargers (famous last words)
Will check to see how much grief it is to hard wire direct onto battery or whether rhe power outlet route is used cos I am a lazy ar$e

Great thread Jonny and a very interesting read. Something I hadnt considered was the indoor cover my car will be using during winter m9nths which of course is when it will be connected to a charger the most !
May need to think this through a little more !

You are over thinking this. The kit I mentioned before plugs into the 12V in the boot. Shut the boot and the unit simply sits on the floor behind the car. Then the cover goes on. Let me know if you want a pic.

+1 Exactly as Nick has said - wrap old t shirt around the cable exiting the boot before cover goes on or new t shirt if you want to spend more money.

Perhaps it’s just an issue with my car, but I found that connecting a CTEK charger to the 12v boot outlet to be unreliable. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t which is why I eventually wired an extension directly to the battery.

Might have been the cigarette lighter connector to blame although you’d know from the ctek itself whether working fairly instantly.
That said my defender is directly connected via the battery and that can have issues too if the connector itself works loose after multiple unplugs etc.
My GT3 was on a ctek for 9 years usage and only broke when I drove it out without unplugging - more common than you think !

The last time I hooked up my Ctek to the Vanquish I used the jump connectors under the bonnet. That worked just fine.

I use an indoor car cover made a small hole in cover above driver door push charger cable through to connect to 12v supply in centre console.
