Vantage S exhaust valve
Discussion
I'm not sure if my exhaust valve is operating on my Vantage S...
It's a 2011 car, from what I'm reading the Vantage S uses fuse 15 for that valve, removing it doesn't make any noticeable difference in noise, but then I read 4.7 isn't as noticeable and on top of that an S has a louder exhaust as well?
It sounds great , but should there be any noticeable difference removing that fuse in a Vantage S?
I would have expected to have heard some change..

In my non-S but N420 it's pretty noticeable. The difference with a normal 4.7 is that my valves are opening at 3100 RPM instead of 4000+. So the more RPM, the less noticeable the opening will be.
Are you sure it's fuse 15 and not 22? My car should have been 22 but it was 15, so maybe yours is the other way round?

I read a post on another forum that said a 2011 S used fuse 15, I tried fuse 22 and didn't notice any difference with that either, but maybe I'll try again. Also don't really hear a difference when I rev above 3100 or 4000 (other than it just generally getting louder with the revs).

You need to drive it though. The fuse on mine makes zero difference on cold start.
If no difference is heard maybe the valves are stuck? It happens sometimes. Try by yourself to move them by hand by laying under the car with the engine off. You can easily see the rod on both sides.
Is they work, then try the same operation but with engine on and someone that can rev it up to see if they are activated by the vacuum pump. Be safe and maybe bring some ear protection, having the car revved up to 4000 RPM with your head inches from the exhaust is probably not the best experience!
For instance, one of my rods was broken, I had to weld in a new valve, see my topic from back then:

Cold start is always with open valves, to have that typical Aston bark! You need to drive it though. The fuse on mine makes zero difference on cold start.
You could use a third party remote/fuse kit to have them closing at start, should you wish a silent mode for neighbours etc.

Mine is definitely 2011
Are you sure a previous owner hasnt just stuck an S badge on it and sold it as one, check your V5C, it will say (Vantage S V12 Auto) under vehicle details. (D3: Model).

A couple of threads that may help you below. I had a similar experience when I Moved from a 4.3 to a 4.7 and tried to install an exhaust switch.

I'm pretty sure it's an S: bought it from Aston Martin dealership, it has SS2, side skirts, lower bumper, carbon in the right places and black engine manifold.Oh and it's got an S on the back

Thanks bobajob, useful threads. When it stops raining I might have a ferret under the car see if I can see the actuator to the valve and if it moves or not.https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

You should hear a difference with the fuse in place. As others have said, with start-up the valves are open. Once you're moving the valves will close and as you hit around 3700 rpm the valves will open.....you will hear the difference. If you don't then it's likely the valves are stuck. You should be able to move them with your hands (on each side of the rear box. If they don't move then apply lots of WB40 and wait.
An alternative might be that the previous owner has fitted a different rear box (but that's unlikely as the S has the sports exhaust).
