Ctek charger

Chaps apologies if this has been asked before but first post on here, done a search but can’t quite find the answer. Just got my first Aston, 2011 DB9. Bought the Ctek charger off Amazon with the cig lighter adapter so I can plug it in via the inside of the car and not the boot. So… cig lighter says 12V 10amp and charger says 12V 5amp. Is that ok to use or have I screwed up with the amps being different? Also if that’s ok to use I’m guessing the mode on the charger will be car symbol but then would you select AGM or RECOND for charging option? Not got it yet so not been able to read the instructions but wanted to try and get a head start. Many thanks for any help and your time!

You select the one that is relevant for your battery.

Assuming it’s the CTEK MXS 5 , just setting via the mode button to the car symbol is all you need to do.
Recon is when battery is in a very discharged state and if used then reset to the car symbol once the lights have gone green.
Providing the socket is live then using the cig lighter attachment to the CTEK is quite normal.
If you are worried about that then maybe think about connecting a terminal with an inline fuse directly to the battery and just connect that way - CTEK do one with lights to show the state of the battery.

As other replies. Be aware the lead it comes with on th curl plus the cog lighter lead isn’t that long…depends on where you park and how far cig lighter socket in boot will be from a plug socket. I got their extension lead as well so could run it a couple of metres in all

The 10A rating for the socket in the car is the maximum load you should draw from the socket without blowing the fuse or possibly damaging the car’s wiring. The 5A rating of your CTEK is the maximum current it can supply (push into the socket) to charge your battery. In short, you’ll be fine.

You need to make sure the socket in the car is live when the car is shut down, because if the car cuts the supply to that socket at key-off then you won’t be able to use it to charge the battery when the key is out.
