Hey all, apologies if this has been discussed many times before, I did a quick search and couldn't find anything specific.

I picked up a 4.3 vantage at the weekend and have found that it has the standard, stiff gear change when cold, and whilst not 100% slick when warm it is in keeping with what I understand to be normal for the car.

However, randomly at times, going into 4th can only be described as 'spongy'. There is no click when it is changed and feels very rubbery. At times it behaves and feels like all the other gears, with a definite click on entry, but now and again, it's just sponge. If I take it back out and re-engage it when it occurs it will often revert to normal and feel like the other gears going in.

I'll get in touch with the garage about it today as I did mention it on the test drive. They said it was a simple fix, which they claimed to have done so perhaps it just dropped of the list or pre sale items.

TIA for any and all advice smile

Ahh. If I had a pound for the number of times a garage has said it has fixed something only for it to reoccur a week later.

Why are so many car problems intermittent?

I get this on mine too. Interested if the garage does have a fix, but I’ve just seen it as a ‘feature’ until now. I guess perhaps replacing the linkage cables might help if they are tired…? They might have just adjusted them before, which I believe can be done at the gearbox end.
