V8 Vantage Brake Pad Backing plate

Evening all,

Looking for some advice on my new brake pads I'm about to install (V8 Vantage '10 4.7 4-pot's).

Currently putting on new discs and pads. Went for the standard Brembo discs, and Porterfield R4-S pads.

When I removed the old pads they had a backing plate on with small arms that wrap over the sides. The Porterfield's didn't come with these, and the ones on the old pads are in pretty rough shape. When I tried to peel one off it started to brake in the middle of the plate.

So - I'm looking for advice whether or not the Porterfield's should be installed with new backing plates? I can't see to find any to buy when looking online.

Probably an anti-squeal shim. Now you have a different pad material and different resonant frequency, so it is redundant.

I just fit some Porterfields to my 4.7 and there were no separate backing plates necessary, no squeal either, so nothing to be concerned about

Eh, I went with EBC and had horrible braking noises since I thought shims were redundant too.

Not saying you are in the same situation, but you can learn from my mistakes maybe.
